Memtest?
I've gotten some memory address errors recently and wondered what's the easiest way to diagnose / troubleshoot the memory itself? I've heard of many RAM testing programs but never used any.

i also use memtest86, and love it.
for those who might already have a knoppix cd, they have been including it on knoppix for quite some time. you press f1 for options, and it should be listed as a boot option. hope this helps :)

I'd suggest searching for Memtest 86+. It's the latest, & best suited for the latest CPU's.
I used it to troubleshoot under-performing memory. It allows you to evaluate how different latency settings, PAT, etc. impact memory errors. Floppy boot, you don't even need to hook up your hard drives! I'll go one step further....I'd suggest using it for a new computer build. Test your memory out before connecting hard drives & installing your operating system. --Alan |
