Machspeed board will not boot, reset stays on, no video
This problem started after some minor changing of fans.
On power on I have no video, just the self test from the monitor. Reset button stays on. Floppy drive does not cycle as if to be recognized. My connection to the vid card looks ok. I resat the card and replugged the monitor cord. Still no POST info and no floppy cycle. For now I removed the HD to see if I can get this much going. When trying to power on I get nothing from the reset button it just stays on and is unresponsive. Sometimes I have had to use reset if the monitor was not turned on in the right sequence. The reset would then go dark and then find the monitor. That's the best diagnostic info I can give. |

Re: Machspeed board will not boot, reset stays on, no video
Check all the power connections in th case. It's easy to knock something loose while working inside the case. Was the power cord unplugged from the power supply while you were inside the case/were you properly grounded while touching any components?

Re: Machspeed board will not boot, reset stays on, no video
No sparks flew. I've handled boards but didn't have a strap on. Tomorrow I'm going to strip the thing down and replug everything on a workbench where I can see the connections better.
It's that reset that is a sticking point. I do not know why the light stays on. It's got to be a power flame up someplace. At the video card I could hear the power come on in the monitor when putting the plug in the card. The usual crackle. But it was not getting signal. When powering up, the screen goes dark-- no message from the monitor self test. But no POST screen either. The front panel power switch works in the usal manner where holding it in shuts everything down. I will look for other messages tomorrow. thanks for answering. |

Re: Machspeed board will not boot, reset stays on, no video
Something to add today.
From reading the manual for error codes I have realized that there are no (Zee Row) beep codes at startup. I moved the unit to a bench, cleaned the inside attached keyboard, mouse etc and a different monitor. I also reset the CMOS according to manual instructions. These things made no change. Reset light still stays on, no beep codes, no POST. This unit should not have "gone dead" just from changing some fan connections. The CPU has not been removed but I have changed out the fan/heatsink setup prior to the unit going dead. This and a bit of fresh thermal grease should not have killed the whole unit. That's as far as I am. Without even a beep code I am stumped. |
