Upgrading Processor of Asus LEONITE.

Sorry to ask a question like this on my first post, but I'm looking to upgrade my Processor. Current Processor is Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 1866 MHz according to PC wizard 2009, and the Mainboard is an Asus LEONITE, which has a 775 LGA socket for a processor. I'm wondering what quadcore processors, if any, I can replace my current one with.

Thank you for your time.

Re: Upgrading Processor of Asus LEONITE.

What's the make and model of your computer? HP perhaps?
That isn't a retail motherboard, it's produced by asus for an oem computer manufacturer.
The bios determines which cpu's it will recognize, the specific microcode for each and
every cpu must be in the bios, if it isn't there, the cpu won't be recognized and then
it either won't boot at all, or there will be performance issues. It can be hard to find
which will work, an email to some manufacturer's will get you a cpu support list,
which is what you need. Others don't like to give them out, and you can look around
the internet to see what others report as working for that specific computer.

Re: Upgrading Processor of Asus LEONITE.

Well according to the manufacturer's website, it doesn't support any quadcore. Does that mean I need to buy a new motherboard if I want a better processor?

Computer is an HP pavilion a1720n.

Re: Upgrading Processor of Asus LEONITE.

Here's the link to your motherboard from HP.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...roduct=3340228

According to that, it supports,
Socket: 775
Supports the following processors:
Core 2 Duo E6x00
Core 2 Duo E4x00
Pentium D 9x0 Dual Core
Pentium D 8xx Dual Core
Pentium 4 6x1 series
Celeron D 3xx series

What you should try is emailing HP and see if they will give you a cpu support list, detailing the exact processors that will work. They are sometimes good about doing that. If not, I wouldn't try any of the 45nm. cpu's, probably nothing better than a 65nm. E6700 2.66Ghz. same 1066Mhz. fsb as yours, 4MB. cache compared to your 2MB. If it worked, it'd perform better. Of course, older cpu's are getting harder to find.
Getting a new motherboard might also mean new ram too, so board/ram/cpu would end up running a fair bit. Then the motherboard might not fit, depends if the current one is standard, though it does say mATX form factor, so it should fit.

I think it mostly depends on what you want the computer to do that it needs upgrading. Something like games would need a video card and power supply too.
