New PC Freezing with m4a785td-v

Hello all, I have a problem with my new PC constantly freezing, I will try and shed as much light on this issue as I can. I hope someone out there has a solution.

As stated, my new PC is constantly freezing all the time, but this only generally happens when there is a high hard-disk usage, but some other times too. The PC will freezes and locks up so that I cannot do anything. When this happens - if I am playing music - it jumps with screeching noises in between, and sometimes the monitor will begin to display strange boxes.

However, I have done tests with various hardware, I am running a 1tb Sata hard-drive along with a 320Gb whihc my OS is installed on. The HDDs seemed to be making more noise than usual and freezing occured mainly when installing and copying/saving files (including freezing whilst in a new XP installation), I suspected them to be causing the problem, I unplugged them, swapped and ran an IDE drive, the same effects occurred. I have also removed soundcard, gfx card and removed each memory module. I am left to suspect that the problem is with the CPU or Motherboard (possibly memory?).

Here are my specifications with the components suspected to be causing problem:
  • AM3 Phenom II 965
  • m4a785td-v evo motherboard
  • Corsair unbufferred 1333Mhz DDR3

I do not suspect the processor so much or RAM, simply because I can play games like Day of Defeat: source for hours but as soon as I might start writing files to the HDD then that is where problems occur, so maybe I have to change some settings on the motherboard to stop this?

Thanks in advance for all replies.

[edit]
I have forgot to mention that I have also updated the BIOS to latest version.

Re: New PC Freezing with m4a785td-v

Well, since my last post I have altered the Memory voltage settings in the BIOS to 1.575v from AUTO setting. This seems to have improved the stability of the system, crashes are less frequent, however are still pretty common.

If voltage settings are the problem then what should they be set to, asides from AUTO.

[edit]
After turning my PC back on from last night I have found that the voltage settings that APPEARED to be reducing the chances of a crash have changed. I have now switched them back onto auto.

Re: New PC Freezing with m4a785td-v

SOLVED!

Under-clocked the ram from AUTO (667Mhz) to 533Mhz via Jumperfree configuration in BIOS.
