Hi - Not sure if this is a motherboard/CPU/Bios problem but this seemed the best forum to post.
I accidentally knocked my PC off a 0.75m high tabletop whilst cleaning dust/crud from the interior, it was switched off and all cables disconnected. Pressing on/off button , the PC comes on, pwr & disk LEDS are lit, CPU & GPU fans are spinning but there is no signal to the CRT (blank screen) and no beeps are to be heard, also no LEDS active on the keyboard. No HDD disk activity ( seeking etc) to be heard at all I have checked the +12v & +5v lines okay, on the wiring loom from the PSU that feeds the DVD/CD/floppy( and also goes to the extra power connector on the AGP card), I have not managed to check the main ATX connector to the mobo as there are no volts when it is disconnected from the mobo - is there a way to 'spoof' it to switch on whilst unplugged? Also tried reseating the AGP GFX card, no change. Any ideas would be helpful, I'm very worried that there are no beeps and no signal to the monitor. PC Spec -------- A7N8x deluxe v2, AMD XP2500, ATI radeon 9500, 2x256mb DDR, 120GB ATA HDD(dualboot XP & LinuxMint) & 300GB SATA HDD, 350W ATX PSU (noname generic) Cheers! |

Re: PC dead after nasty fall!
For the power supply, there is a sticky: Test your power supply with a multi meter
Remove and disconnect everything from the motherboard except the cpu. No RAM, video card, disconnect all data cables. Then try to boot, you should receive beep (error) codes for missing RAM. If not, you have a motherboard/cpu or power supply issue.

Re: PC dead after nasty fall!
Thanks! I had just seen that sticky and I'm checking now.
All seem okay except pin14 green PS_ON# which is 0.017vdc. I think that the case switch must be okay, as it does stich the PC on and off ( depressing for several seconds turns it off). When the PC is off pin14 PS_ON is at +5vdc ( I guess this is from the 5vsby), but when i switch on pin14 drops to 0.017vds & stays there. ideas? |

Re: PC dead after nasty fall!
I don't seem to be able to edit my previos post, so apologies for dbl post.....
I see now that I had misread the sticky, and actually p14 PS_ON at 0vdc is how it supposed to be when the PC is switched on.. It seems to operating as per description. It's not possible for me to remove evrything on the board just right now, I'll do that tomorrow afternoon. Does anyone think that this looks like a cpu problem/? :( |

Re: PC dead after nasty fall!
Hi,
Okay, everything has been removed from the mobo, except the front panel connectors( pwr/reset/IDE_LED). Now, as soon as it's switched on, I get a repeating longish beep, about ~1sec in duration, that continues until it's powered down again. I guess this is the 'No Ram' POST message. Should I start re-adding components back to the motherboard. Cheers :edit: I found a pdf manual for this mobo, it's supposed to have a feature Winbond/speech controller/ASUS POST reporter that gives vocal eror messages. However I hear nothing, and do remember in the past hearing such messages, although I did disable it in BIOS. Perhaps it' defaults to disabled after a BIOS reset, which I performed by removing battery for some time just to see if it helped - it didn't. Last edited by snecklock; 11-09-2009 at 06:33 AM. |

Re: PC dead after nasty fall!
Try and boot with minimum components. Aside from the obvious motherboard and cpu with their power connections, put one stick of ram in the slot closest to the cpu, and your video card. No drives at all. Don't even need to hook up a keyboard and mouse at this point. See if you can get a post, any display at all really. If you do, then you'll need to hook up the kb and mouse and go into the bios and load setup defaults, then save and exit. Then you can start adding in drives one at a time, see if one of them prevents getting a display.
That's good for a quick check, but if it doesn't work right away, I'd pull everything out of the case and do a bench test, as in the sticky. How to Bench Test Your System
