System Locks After BIOS and Won't Load OS [moved from Vista/ Windows 7]
My computer started working slow this afternoon. My wife works from home for Sutherland global services as a cable rep. When the computer started running slow she rebooted it as usual. When the system rebooted it stopped right after the BIOS finished loading. It stopped at the boot from CD prompt. If I change the boot order it simply stops after running the bios and will not continue to load.
I tried running the Windows disk that came with the computer. It locates the Vista install. I tried running the repair startup section of the disk which finished running and then said that there weren't any problems. I then rebooted the system and tried to run "Restore from backup" which simply hangs and doesn't do anything. I run AVG home version as a anti-virus and keep the definitions up to date. I run Adaware for cookies and other malware. System Information: Quote:
The summary is that I am stuck with a black screen and a blinking cursor right after the bios loads. Any help would be appreciated. Last edited by CDavidNeely; 11-06-2009 at 05:08 PM. |

Re: System Locks After BIOS and Won't Load OS [moved from Vista/ Windows 7]
Is the HDD still recognized by the BIOS? If so, you can test the HDD using the tools listed here: Hard Drive Diagnostic Utilities
Assuming the HDD is still good, the typical cause of a system hang after post is corrupt Windows files or drivers.
