ASUS Motherboard P5e won't POST

Hi
I have got ASUS Motherborad P5e,,,,yesterday it did POST today it did not work.

I can see SB LED lights up in green color

I removed all cards and RAMs and HD,,,,only CPU left, and shorted the pin for POWER SW,,,still noting worked, CPU fan wouldn't spin at all.

Unplugged the power supply cable that is hooked to motherboard and hooked it again

If the motherboard SB LED lights up, the power supply is almost certainly working.

Is there any other troubleshooting should I consider ?

Thanks

Take it out of the case and bench test it:

This is certainly not an indication the power supply is fine. That is an indication that there is power from the wall to the motherboard, but not that the power supply is doing it's job.

Please list all specs including the video card and the brand name and wattage of the power supply.

I did try this power supply on my old PCs (i.e another motherboard) and its fan and the CPU fan both of them span.

Re: ASUS Motherboard P5e won't POST

The +12 rail with 18 amps on that power supply (Besta = Junk supply) is not strong enough to pull the video card you have. You need a bare minimum of a power supply with 26 amps or more on the +12 rail.

Specifications from your link:

DC Output (MAX)
+3.3V 29A
+5V 43A
+12V 18A
-12V 0.8A
+5Vsb 2.5A

I would still try a quality power supply in there.

Here is what you need:

/OR/ even a better buy for the money

Yes I do agree it is junk power supply , but this is power supply worked for about 5 months then I have not used the computer for about one year,,,,now I want to figure out is the motherborad is dead or power supply is dead.

Since the power supply is working on another motherboard , I am afraid that motherborad is dead

Re: ASUS Motherboard P5e won't POST

I don't know how that power supply lasted as long as it did with that kind of load on it, and I am very surpised that it didn't kill some other parts along the way.

Unfortunately, very weak power supplies will run for a few months before they tank, then they will kill memory, motherboards, or some other component as they die. That is a distinct possibility here, the power supply might have died and taken the motherboard with it. Those motherboards can't last long with not enough voltage. That is why on this forum we tell everyone that a cheap power supply costs more in the long run than a quality unit.

Are you telling me this power supply now is working fine and pulling another computer that has that video card in it? You have the whole computer together and it is working fine? If it is, I am rather shocked it will do that. Running a fan in another rig is not like pulling the video card you say you have, just want you to know that.

Re: ASUS Motherboard P5e won't POST

There is a great big difference between an onboard card and the one you are asking this PSU to pull.

There is no doubt about that ,,,I will try a nother power supply 700 w on ASUS motherborad just to verify if motherborad is dead or not.

Re: ASUS Motherboard P5e won't POST

That is a good plan and the only way you will know, and do hope it is a good power supply you are trying with enough power to do the job for you.

I just borrowed working power supply (720 Max. SHAW Silent Dual Fan) from friend of mine to and I hooked it to the ASUS motherboard, I can see I can see SB LED lights up in green color but still motherboard does not POST.

Again only RAM and CPU (no HDDs no Graphic card attached),,,,is that a good indicator to a dead motherboard ? or still I have to try another PSU ?

Re: ASUS Motherboard P5e won't POST

Pull all the memory out and see if it beeps at you. Report back with what it does and we might be able to narrow things down rather quickly.

I have alredy done that , the case that I have got , has two wires for a speaker.

And motherborad has 4-pin speaker connection.

I tried different way to connect those two wires to 4-pins, but i could not hear beep

Re: ASUS Motherboard P5e won't POST

If the motherboard doesn't beep with memory out, it is most likely gone. That is my opinion.
