[SOLVED] New parts, new problems!
Ok guys this is my first shot at this kind of site, here goes.
I just upgraded my PC to now include a new P5Q-EM ASUS motherboard, and new CPU - Intel Q9550 Core 2 Quad. The rest of the PC is 1 x 500gb + 1 x 1.5tb SATA HDs, 600W PSU and 1 x 2gb 800 DDR2. The computer starts and will get into the BIOS no problems, but once it starts to load the OS (Windows 7), it gets about 2 seconds into the little animation to show its loading and then it freezes and BSODs. Each time I start it, the exact same thing is happening. I have pulled out any extra components including the other 3 2bg memory sticks (i have tried each and in different combos to no effect). I shouldnt imagine that i would need to re-install the OS, but there has to be something at work here. Any clues would be fantastic!! |

Re: New parts, new problems!
What type of hardware was installed in your system before the upgrade?
If there was a dramatic difference in hardware then there is a good chance that you will need to reinstall because windows is expecting one hardware set and now it is different. Sometimes it will work if there are minor changes but a new MB, C2Q etc is a big change. You best bet at this point in my opinion would be to do a repair installl so that windows will see the new hardware and make the correct changes for it. |

Re: New parts, new problems!
Before the upgrade it was a pretty simple motherboard, with a dual core 2.6 - not sure of the brand or model of those.
I have taken the video card out so as to ensure that its not an issue, but for the sake of arguement its a 1gb ddr5 HD4870 i think its called, but like i said - its unplugged. The power supply is a 600W CoolerMaster, seems like a pretty generic thing to me. SATA sets as IDE in the bios as default, and i tried changing it to the other options in a vain attempt at something i didn't completely understand. My temps and voltages are as follows CPU TEMP: 42 C MB TEMP: 37 C CPU VOLT : 1.13 3.3 VOLT: 3.337 5 VOLT: 5.064 12 VOLT: 12.040 Are those temps high? |

Those Temps and Voltages are OK.
Specs on the RAM you are using? What are the Error Codes you get on the BSOD? You will most likely have to ,at least, do a repair install.

Re: New parts, new problems!
The RAM is currently 1 x 2GB 800. I have 3 more of the same but removed them to eliminate a potential issue there.
The BSOD happens too fast to see anything. I'll try a repair install. Thanks! |
