computer wont boot....

Hello, im having a problem with my computer... The problem started when my computer went into sleep mode.. than when I tried to wake it up.. it never woke up.. so i tried to restart it and the damn thing comes on for a split second and dies..

I replaced the power supply, and it still does the same thing. I took out all the memory and disconnected everything from the board except the CPU and the power supply.. No IDE's or graphics cards are connected.

Is there any way that I can test the CPU to make sure that it is not fried?

At this point I have no idea what steps to take next. Anyone have any suggestions, besides taking it to a computer repair shop?

Thanks!

Time to substitute parts. Have you tried another monitor?

Re: computer wont boot....

i know its not the monitor.. usually there is a BEEP when the computer starts... but there is no BEEP.. it just runs.. fans and everything but no output.. What would keep it to start into BIOS?

I think it may either be the CPU or the mobo...

is there any way to test these independently?

I dont have any other machines laying around to test them on either.. :(

you think if i took it in to a computer shop they would test it for me?

Re: computer wont boot....

Clear the CMOS load failsafe defaults and see if it posts without any drives hooked up.

Was about to suggest that.

Remember to both short the pins and remove the battery itself. That covers both ways to reset it.

Re: computer wont boot....

I cleared the CMOS by removing the battery and booting the computer up without the battery and hard drive... still nothing. I replaced the battery and still does the same thing..

Re: computer wont boot....

Pull one stick of ram and try it, if still not booting swap the sticks try again.
