CPU Cooler
I recently purchased a combo deal from newegg.com that came with a cpu, but not a cpu cooler. I'm told that the cpu temperature should be around 40 degrees C but it's running at around 50 C at boot and rising. I don't have an OS installed and am also told that I shouldn't install one until I get a cpu cooler. Is this true or are there other alternatives?

Re: CPU Cooler
Are you sure the CPU didn't come with a cooler? Virtually all CPUs do come with one, and they're enough to cool the CPU at stock settings.
What was the combo deal? Can you give us a link?

Re: CPU Cooler
Maybe I missed it when I opened it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...nIIBundle-_-na the processor came in a small plastic box with enough room for itself and the padding.

Re: CPU Cooler
Can you post the combo deal you purchased? All "boxed" CPU's come with a CPU fan/heatsink. Only OEM CPU;'s do not come with a heatsink/fan.

Re: CPU Cooler
It's an OEM.
You'll have to buy one separate or the CPU will overheat as soon as you put a load on it. A basic CPU heatsink will cost you ~$10; a nice one meant for overclocking will run $30-60. Make sure whichever one you buy is compatible with socket AM3/AM2+/AM2.
