cant boot from cd..
Hello,I'm having issues booting from a CD. When the prompt comes up to "press any key to boot from cd", my keyboard is unresponsive.
The CD is bootable. I have confirmed with other computer. My keyboard works because I can get into BIOS, but when i need to press a key to boot from cd my keyboard just goes off for that moment, and goes back again when i need to put my password to log in .. is there any posible solutions ? maybe i could make that cd auto bootable i dont know if its posible

Re: cant boot from cd..
are you using a USB keyboard or PS/2? If you have both ports, try another keyboard in the other port, example, if you have a USB, try one in the PS/2 port.
as for the cd. I take it that its a windows install disc. Most of those you can change it to auto boot instead of having the press any key. The program nLite refferred to in this link can do that: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...-installation/ Which you may need that link anyway if you find that the windows install disc doesn't see your hard drive

p.s if it means anything ... when i try to load instalation w/o restarting, just double click setup, i get message "This installation disc isn't compatible with your version of Windows. To upgrade, you need the correct installation disc. For more information, check your computer's system information. To install a new copy of Windows, restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc, and then select Customer (Advanced)." could it be a problem that i have windows xp x32bit and i try to instal w7 x64 bit ? and yes my PC support both. but still this doesnt explain why my keyboard goes off when i need to press a key to boot from CD.. Re: cant boot from cd..
You can only do the upgrade from Vista. XP is a qualifying upgrade to use the upgrade disc with a fresh install of windows 7. But to do the 7 install while running windows, it has to be Vista.
Also you can't do cross platform upgrades, so you can't upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit. You have to do a fresh install. Found a link to a vista version of nLite, this may work with 7. http://www.vlite.net/ Edit: Read a bit on the vlite forums, apparently it will work with 7, but at some point you can add or remove parts of 7 to make it a smaller install. Don't! don't remove any parts of it. Last edited by Madcatz; 10-28-2009 at 10:00 AM. |

Re: cant boot from cd..
Or buy a 2$ garage sale ps/2 keyboard ;)
Had to use one to boot my current system for vista, ended up using usb to install win7. Its always useful to keep one around as long as the standard is still in use.

Re: cant boot from cd..
lol, thats usually on by default, oh well, glad to see you got it working.
Few interesting things about 7 for ya, have multiple windows open, click on the title bar of one and shake it and see what happens ![]() you can also click and drag a window off the screen to the left or right have it will auto-resize to half the screen. |
