HP Pavillion dv6707 Start/Boot-Up Problems (lights on 2 seconds then off, repeat)

Ok.... I am new to this forum, so i will try and explain as much as i can.

I have a HP Pavillion dv6707. It's a laptop, running Windows Vista, it has 2gb ram. The warranty and everything is out, so that's no use.

One day, we were using it, and all of a sudden a crackly white/gray screen appears, and its like glitchy. We just held the power button until it turned off the computer, since it didn't respond. When we try to power it back on, the lights turn on, and you can hear it really loud, but no picture(just black) for about 2 seconds, then it shuts off for 2 seconds. This keeps repeating unless i manually power it off again. I have tried Ctr-Alt-Dlt, and all those, and nothing works. I hear no sound except the machine trying to run. IF i hold the power and escape button and keep holding power, then the lights will stay on, but the screen remains black, and it shuts up completely, so i hear NOTHING from it.

Please help me out guys, and i will try and supply what info i know without the actual computer, since i cant turn it on. Will me data be saved?

Thanks for everyone who helps,

Sincerely,

Faris

PS - I already tried HP's 1 year extra warranty program thing, and my computer DOES NOT qualify for it.

when you say it shuts off for 2 seconds, so its trying to power on again also?

First thing, take out the hard drive and dvd drive, and reseat your memory.

Hey thanks for responding. Yes it is trying to power on. Please be more specific on removing the components, because i am not too savvy with that, and i dont want to mess anything up..

Also, do you suspect that its a mobo failure? and if it is, will i still have all my data when it is fixed, or no.

Have you checked the cooling fan area for dust buildup?

Can't really be more specific in saying to remove the hard drive and dvd drive. But I can at least give you something to show you how.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01295877.pdf

that will also show you where and how to get to the memory to reseat it.

All your data is on the hard drive, as long as that is ok then your data should be there. As for what the suspected culprit is, I've seen quite a few things cause something like this, but it could be the motherboard.
