[SOLVED] Which one to buy?
I'm looking to upgrade my m/b and processor. Out of these two, which one would be more reliable, faster, better for gaming, and user friendly
.http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0317390 http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0317388 (Im leaning towards this one.) Also, can someone explain the difference between Pentium Dual Core and Core 2 Duo. Why are they the same price when the C2D bundle looks much faster. ![]() EDIT: Also, for the C2D, can it be upgradable past 2gb of ddr2 RAM if I run Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Linux? From what I know, Vista can support up to 4gb of RAM, (Not sure about 7, XP or Linux distros) so can someone clarify that as well? ~Many thanks, Fishy4Life

Re: Which one to buy?
That motherboard only supports 2gig and max 667 speed it's obsolete by today's standards
The 5200 is the better choice because of the higher cache and core speed, but it's also getting old. |

Re: Which one to buy?
Ok, but since I'm 14, this is all I can afford. :( Anyways, other than that, I just realized it's an eATX M/B, so will it fit into my Antec 900 Gaming Case?
EDIT: To me this would be a huge improvement, check out my current processor: http://www2.dealtime.com/xPF-AMD-Ath...Hz-AXDA2600BOX Since, I'm good with computers, it's rated at 2.8ghz. :) EDIT2: My current M/B, it fits very well. http://www.asrock.com/MB/overview.asp?Model=K7VM4 My Gaming Case: http://www.techwarelabs.com/reviews/cases/antec900/ and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021 I'm not buying it, I already have it just showing the descriptions.

Re: Which one to buy?
I have a 600w power supply and as for the graphics card, it may be around 512mb, I need to still purchase one. One of my previous questions weren't answered either. Can I add more than 2gb ram to the motherboard like if I operated on Windows 7 or Linux?

Re: Which one to buy?
I did answer it, no the board only holds 2 gig the OS doesn't matter.
I'm thinking this board > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128357 And one of these CPU's if you can swing the E6300 it's a much faster CPU because of the Buss speed http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116091 |

Re: Which one to buy?
Ah, sorry about that, but will a mATX board will fit perfectly into my case? And will I have to worry about mounting it a funky way? Anyways, buying the gigabyte m/b is $53 and the dual Pentium is $82 which is $135, I guess I could try saving up that much. Also, I would want an Intel Core 2 Duo because of of all the great things I heard about it. :)
By the way, I know that L2 Cache is basically, more multitasking power, but exactly is Front bus Speed, obviously, the more the better, but what does it mean? EDIT: For the gigabyte board, it says support for Vista/XP, this may sound like a very stupid question, but can it support Win7 Ultimate? Last edited by Fishy4Lif3; 10-26-2009 at 07:23 PM. |

Re: Which one to buy?
Ooo, ooo, I got it, Should I get the setup you gave me or this:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0317387 or a completely different setup: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128380 since it's a great ATX board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116091 the cpu you recommended, this is probably the most I can spend on these. |

Re: Which one to buy?
The P43 board is the way go if you can.
Seems all those package deals from Micro Center are new old stock boards that on only supports 2gig of ram max also, and MSI is not the best manufacturer. If it supports Vista it will support Win 7. The Matx boards will fit your case with out an issue. |
