Starting noticing bout a month ago my power fan was getting warmer than usual to the touch from outside the tower. Being concerned, I took out all hardware, cleaned everything just to be sure dirt / fluff wasn't the problem. I then checked the CPU . Took off the thermal compound, and replaced with new. Still no luck . I put in a new 650 watt fan. Stilll, the issue is the same.
Then I noticed that by accidently touching the ports on the motheboard, they were extremely warm to touch on the outside of tower. I felt on the motherboard itself in between the processor and and the ports inside the tower, and the small area there was hot . Even a couple of "pipes" there were very warm. The only ports I use on this mother board are 2 usb ports, network port for internet. I also have an Geforce graphics card connected to my motherboard ( pcie x16 ) 9500gt 1024 MB, with an Gateway lcd flat monitor hooked into the card (anolog) . However, there are times to you can touch everything I mentioned above, and they all seem to be"normal" cool to the touch. The motherboard I have is the Intel D915GaG . The processor is a Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading 800mhz FSB 3.0 Ghz I have the max RAM for this board installed DDR400. I bought this board from Xpc gear a year ago. The processor is about 6 years old. I ran the Intel Utility for checking temps and cpu and this is what it returned : Processor Zone Temp : 38 celsius has gotten as high 53-54 celsius Zone 1 26 degrees celsius Zone 2 26 degrees celsius - both zones for the motheroard have gone as high as 36-38 celsius. Processor fan speed : Fluctuates from 2513 to 2541 just browsing the net. I load World of Wacraft all CPU will shoot up to a tep of 53-54 celsius. Voltage : 12v 12.125 goes to about 12.188 5v 5156V 3.3v 3.352 CPU core 1.329 CPU I/O (+1.5v) 1.484 According to the intel utility and my bios readings which were identical to the readings from the utility I posted here, everything is in normal limits. I hope someone is able to help me figure out what the main issue is for this to be hapening. I have tried everything other than buying a new processor. Even though, I really dont think processor is really the culprit. |

Re: Baffled -CPU-Motherboard-Fans
Those temps are well within acceptable limits.
Are you experiencing any heat related problems like Blue Screens, lagging, shut downs?

Re: Baffled -CPU-Motherboard-Fans
I'm not getting any blue screens of death. I have been experiencing "hangups" and computer completely freezing up on me, causing me to have to just shut it off and restart . Loading a browser may take from 30 seconds to a minute to even load. My ram is new, so I don't know if that could still be a problem or not.
And when I first noticed the motherboard being "hot" I touched the outside tower where cpu is located in tower and the metal was so hot to touch, it literally was enough to make me draw back really fast.( I know you said these temps were in normal limits ) . I felt they were . |

Re: Baffled -CPU-Motherboard-Fans
Ran the check. It returned GPU temp of 37.0 celsius with fan speed being at 50% .

Re: Baffled -CPU-Motherboard-Fans
Nothing wrong there, how many case fans do you have, where are they located and which direction do they blow(in or out).
Do you feel the power supply fan blowing air out the back? Is hot or warm? |

Re: Baffled -CPU-Motherboard-Fans
I have 2 case fans aside from the powersupply fan and the fan on the heatsink for the processor. The two fans - they are both blowing outward . Otherwards pulling the air out . The air that comes from them is warm. However , the back of the power supply fan has always been cool to touch up till a month ago which is why I grew concerned.
I just checked, the air from back of power supply and other fans, are cool to touch. Keep in mind that the ports that don't get used have gotten so hot you couldn't stand touching them . Could perhaps a "sensor" on the motherboard that checks the temp be going out ? |

Re: Baffled -CPU-Motherboard-Fans
Maybe one sensor but if the board was that hot then other sensors would be reporting higher temps then they are.
You should have one fan in the front pulling cool air in and one in the back pushing hot air out, what case do have? |

Re: Baffled -CPU-Motherboard-Fans
Brand Intel (R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.0 GHZ
Processor Speed 3.0GHZ Bus Speed 800 MHZ Eternal Clock 200 MHZ Stepping 4 Form factor Other Hyper Threading is Enabled . L1 Cache Data Cache 16KB Execution Trace Cache 12 Micro - ops L2 Cache Advanced Transfer Cache 1024 KB This number wason the actual processor : 34J8A545 .Not sure if this would be the model number. There was also another number 35415 m696 . This number appeared to be a "sticker " on the green border of the processor. As for the wattage of the processor, I am uncertain as to what that would be. However according to the Intel (R) Utility the Volts are Cpu core 1.329 CPU I/O (+1.5V) value for this is 1.484 V. I looked in Bios for the "wattage" for this type of processor and saw none, this being reason why I posted the volts here in hope it helps. |

Re: Baffled -CPU-Motherboard-Fans
PSU would be the Power Supply you'll have to pull the side cover off and look at the label if your not sure.
The Cosmos should have 4 fans > http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowIm...omputer%20Case |

Re: Baffled -CPU-Motherboard-Fans
A fiend gave me the case and assembled it . I'm guessing now that perhaps he has it together wrong as far as the fans go. For what you asked about the fan, heres the information : Mfg Part No: RC-1000-KSN1-GP UPC No: 870423006336. Box Size: ( Length: 28, ... Ultra LSP750 750-Watt Power Supply.

Re: Baffled -CPU-Motherboard-Fans
Turn the bottom fan around so that it pulls air into the case.
Ultra PSU's are not good but your system should not overly demanding try getting the air flow corrected and see what that gives you. |

Re: Baffled -CPU-Motherboard-Fans
Just wanted to let everyone thats been helping me figure out the issue with my computer, that it has finally died . I took it in to tech advanced , they ran a diagnosis, and during it the computer shut off and wouldnt come back on . I was told though that the motherboard was the problem.

Re: Baffled -CPU-Motherboard-Fans
Intel is still the strongest Combo, though the Phenom II 945 and up are close to the Q9400/Q9550, But to get there you need to use DDR3 ram vs DDR2 on the Intel.
The i5/i7 1156 boards/CPU's are faster but still new and not as stable as I like yet. |
