New Dell Dimension C521 processor
I know there are many other threads about this, but I don't think hijacking would be nice, unless you don't mind hehe :p
Well I want to upgrade the processor to Dual Core for like under 50 bucks in total after Shipping and Handling and whatever else. I am pretty sure I can get an AMD 64 x2 but not sure enough, 100%, to buy one hehe. Here are my specs: Name AMD Sempron 3400+ Codename Manila Specification AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3400+ Package Socket AM2 (940) CPUID F.F.2 Extended CPUID F.5F Brand ID 6 Core Stepping DH-F2 Technology 90 nm Core Speed 1803.8 MHz Multiplier x FSB 9.0 x 200.4 MHz HT Link speed 801.7 MHz Stock frequency 1800 MHz Instructions sets MMX (+), 3DNow! (+), SSE, SSE2, SSE3, x86-64 L1 Data cache 64 KBytes, 2-way set associative, 64-byte line size L1 Instruction cache 64 KBytes, 2-way set associative, 64-byte line size L2 cache 256 KBytes, 16-way set associative, 64-byte line size Mainboard Model 0HY175 And yea the socket is AM2 Not sure how this would help but here: Hardware monitor AMD Sempron 3400+ Temperature 0 19°C (66°F) [0x44] (Core #0) Hardware monitor NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT Temperature 0 63°C (145°F) (GPU Core) Anything else I need to add? So I'm basically asking for help to find the processor because I was looking for one, and they are either about 300 bucks for some reason (It's possible to get quad core with motherboard and a new case for that much) or if they are like 20 or 30 bucks they are deactivated. So now it's like no where to be found. I found this one: http://laptops4me.com/product_info.p...ducts_id/18179 But not sure if it will work, but seems like it would, also it's a bit over what I would hope to pay since it's old technology now, but I guess I could squeeze in but if possible anyone know of a cheaper version? Please help. Thank you. Last edited by GadgetLover; 10-19-2009 at 11:16 AM. |

Re: New Dell Dimension C521 processor
The Brisbane may work, but it can be tough with an OEM bios especially Dell as to whether or not it is recognized properly, the Windsor core x2 5400, x2 5600 will definitely work.
The Windsor x2 6000 89 watt only in that board Google this part number > ADA6000IAA6CZ < the 125 watt will not work in your board for long so watch the CPU you find. |

Re: New Dell Dimension C521 processor
So The Brisbane on Newegg might work, but no guarantees, but the 5400 and 5600 will work no problem. I haven't seen the 5400 though. Well like this one http://www.cesell.com/product.php?productid=161550 They all seem to be out of order, I mean deactivated and no longer distributed.
Thanks for the help though. |

Re: New Dell Dimension C521 processor
The Brisbane's are different voltages and the C521 used 2 or 3 different motherboards all similar but made by different vendors to Dell's specs using the same Bios, you see reports of the 65nm(brisbane) chips working occasionally, but most reports say no, I know I tried 1 or 2 and only had success with the 90nm Windsor cores. Try looking on Ebay for used ones.

Re: New Dell Dimension C521 processor
Winsdor cores are older and out of production except for the x2 6000 125 watt.
The Brisbane if it's not now, soon will also be out of production. |

Re: New Dell Dimension C521 processor
So what should I get then? Because I want to upgrade to dual core in order to get the full use of my graphics card, but I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to get a new computer.
Also here is my cpu thing if that helps. |

Re: New Dell Dimension C521 processor
I'd say that your best bet would be to buy a new motherboard as well as the CPU. It's going to be extremely difficult finding a better CPU that works in your current motherboard.
