yes you are correct, if all 24 pins are not securely attached and connected once into the motherboard plug, disaster can happen

what is the make and model of your power supply ?

Re: computer went out

about the only thing that jumps out at me is the 24 pin connector, try plugging it in and wiggle the wires from the back side of the power supply plug to make sure they are all seated correctly

otherwise the next step is multi meter and checking the outputs
Test your power supply with a multi meter

make sure you jump the green wire to any black wire in the power supply 24pin connector then give the power supply power and check all ouputs like 12volt / 3.3 volt / 5 volt

even corsair gets a bum now and then .........

Re: computer went out

quick question, my friend just let me use his coolmax 224 psu tester before my multimeter comes in, is the psu tester suppose to be able to power on by itself? or does it need batteries? no display, i plugged in a working psu into the tester and then turned the psu on and i got 2 green lights with voltage but no lcd screen display?

a multimeter is a multimeter and one of its abilities is being able to test power supplies, my newegg link is a power supply tester which is only ment to test power supplies and thats it, not to sound mean but google power supply tester and the only things i found was what i posted up above

just tested the psu and it tested good from the psu tester and multimeter, if the ram or cpu was bad would there be bios beeps on either one? and if the cpu was bad would the keyboard and mouse and such not power on?

Re: computer went out

cant rely on bios beeps occuring; sometimes they beep when there is trouble but not always

I would rule out bad cpu >>>thats very rare

try other memory sticks if possible

or especially try another PSU just to make sure >>>>that would be my first task!

Re: computer went out

I have been finding with newer systems if the whole system doesnt show up as being well; the keyboard and mouse wont light up, I noticed the same thing on a system that had one bad memory stick not long ago; it would blue screen every now and then, I thought it was drivers at first but finally after getting ticked off I ran memtest on the system and found the dead stick of memory, after replacing it the keyboard and mouse went back to lighting up

weird but just another little clue we can all use!

thanks for taking the time to share your troubleshooting conclusion, every little bit helps someone!
