Re: Upgrading to dual core

Download and run the Belarc advisor . . it will report the model of your motherboard. With that information, we can tell if it will handle a dual core processor and if so, which one

Re: Upgrading to dual core

What's the make and model of the computer? Check their site, it may list what cpu's work. You can also email them and ask for a cpu support list.
Something like this, perhaps?

Re: Upgrading to dual core

If the PC is an HP/Compaq, that should be a Asus PTGD1-LA (HP motherboard name "Puffer-UL8E). There 478pin and 775pin versions and both are i915 chipset so a Dual Core will not work.

Re: Upgrading to dual core

$316 US is very doable. I realize you are out of the US but these come to under $150 US.

Re: Upgrading to dual core

The graphics card yes but not the RAM. You will need DDR2 RAM.
A 2X1 GB DDR2 800 matched pair of performance RAM is about $50 US.

Less than 45$ Canadian for 4 gb of PC6400 is what I paid. Gold plated OCZ. Try Ncix price matching.

Problem is I don't know if they ship worldwide.

I did find an example of a UK online retailer: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/

Maybe there is more sense to buy locally or from a uk reseller.
