Please help...New PC problems.
Thanks for looking. I bought a new PC a la carte. I have been having several problems getting it to work. I need ideas of things to do. My specs are
Abit Fatal1ty MoBo Intel P4 3.2 2 x 512 ddr2 ram mushkin Ati Radeon x850 video card raptor sata HD pci to ide card - which is causing some issues TV Tuner cd rom cd/rw dvd rom - yes i know, these 3 drives can be turned into two, and eventually 1 another WD hd and some other small crap im sure, like disk drive well, I wish I could list all my issues, but im sure i wont remember them all lets start at the beginning. I put everything all together - turned it on, no power to video card put video card in, worked, and didnt go to bios I guess some issue with pci to ide card, removed it, ran without it..bios loaded tried to install XP...(both SP 1 AND SP2) and several times during loading...anywhere from network settings to before entering the key to after it, to after internet connections, it would freeze. completely. So no go. we decided (i have 4 other guys all CS majors on my dorm floor, youd think the 5 of us could collectively get this working) next we ripped the entire thing apart, to rebuild, in case we had hardware or connection issues. We only kept in the important stuff, and now bios won't even load up. It gives error codes on the MoBo, some of which are not in the manual, such as AF and 0.4. and some in the manual, such as C1 (ram issues) and C0 (other issues) as I currently sit - nothing is being transferred to the monitor, I turn it on, and it will stop on any of the before meantioned error codes. and a lot of the time the power button becomes unresponsive. and a hard shut off is the only way to go. I know it isnt anything heat wise. I almost wondered if it was power, but i run a 480 watt, and the video card has its own unshared plug, along with the hd. I hope nothing arrived DoA. weve tried the ram sticks individually. We all have collectively tried everything basically. So help is in order. thanks so much for reading all this junk! -Dan |

if the power supply is generic then it might not be supplying enough power
when you are loading windows it asks if you want to load any third party drivers if you do press f6 i think you need to load the drivers for the pci to ide card at this point slipstream sp2 into the xp disk and use this for installing, you do not need sp1 as it already included into sp2 set it up out of the case with cpu ram video speaker start it by shorting the 2 pins the wires from the switch connect to and see if it posts if it does put it back in the case in the same configuration and check it again if ok reconnect the switch wires and check again if ok start adding your other components checking between each one,to see if a paticular one is causing the problem |

re
I may have to do that, setting up outside the case, that seems interesting though to try. As far as third party drivers with f6, I know we did that, but I do not remember off hand exactly what happened. I will look into it more tomorrow. I just want this thing to work. If any other ideas come about, please mention, thanks!
