[SOLVED] Dell Dimension 2400
i have a dell dimension 2400...windows XP SP3 1 80 gigHDD and 2 cdrw's....on a cold start..computer boots up and runs fine...if i hit shut down/restart....the c-mos wipes out the cdrw's....(lists them as unknown devices) so windows doesn't see them..if i turn it off...then restart....it starts up fine again...c-mos lists them as cdrw's windows sees them, and the device manager says they r working properly..this only happens on a shutdown/restart...tried all the suggestions...tried all hardware on another computer...all was fine...just bought a new motherboard from dell...all lights green on back..pulled the battery..reset the c-mos...nothing corrects this problem....talked to dell tech...he is stumped and says he never heard of this problem....(even though it's posted all over google...but with no solutions)...he's supposed to get back to me wednesday....was hoping for a solution a little sooner...thanx in advance for any help

well...here it is Thursday...and no response from dell.......not to mention any technicians names but i did talk with virk_183444, budhiraja_160852, Mohammad_197174 & Ketan_198373....and did my best to explain the problem......not to mention the *** on yahoo named HMD....nobody seems to know anything about this problem...(even though, if i google it....i find quite a few HUNDRED people with the same condition)...after doing some pretty extensive research on it..i've concluded that it has to be dell's bios revision A05...nobody had this problem before it...now...everyone that updates does. Personally i just have a dimension 2400 at home....but I just bought a dell t3500 work station for work, and am going to update the bios tomorrow.....if it has the same condition.......they're getting it back if I have to deliver the piece of junk myself.....along with both monitors. In conclusion before you buy a dell....research this problem...if there is a solution...it will be posted on the net...(by me, if no one else)...then by all means..buy a dell...but until they admit they have a serious problem, and make the proper corrections, you're better off with an old e-machine...thanx for your time in reading this.

Re: Dell Dimension 2400
A05 for the Dimesion is from 2003 so I would not expect to see any more updates to it.
You could how ever try flashing it back to A03 to see if that fixes the issue> http://support.dell.com/support/down...1&fileid=86875 |

Re: Dell Dimension 2400
My bet is the earlier bios will fix the problem, I have worked on a few of those and never seen that problem, they were a low cost machine but I never seen any hardware problems with them the ones that came into the shop just need a ram upgrade and virus removel or a reinstall
