Re: 1st build- nothing happening

Re: 1st build- nothing happening

Hi,

So I tried flashing the CMOS and booting again. The computer seems to be running fine, but nothing apppears on the screen. All of the LED lights on the computer light up at the beginning of the boot and turn off after about 5 sec. I assume this is normal. There are no bad smells or unusual noises. Could it have something to do with the monitor I'm using?

Re: 1st build- nothing happening

Did you ever clean off the thermal pad and install new paste?
Try testing the monitor on another PC using the same cable and connection type.

Re: 1st build- nothing happening

I never installed new thermal paste? Is that going to cause the CPU to overheat?

And the monitor has worked with my laptop but on a different connection, so I'll try that.

Re: 1st build- nothing happening

Do the thermal paste, the cpu can overheat and shut itself down before the PC can post without it> http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm

Re: 1st build- nothing happening

Got the post screen!

I then followed the bench test instructions once getting the post screen and got all of the components installed inside of the case (correctly this time). Started to install the operating system but now I'm afraid that I'm having overheat problems. The computer will shut itself down randomly as I am booting it. I've looked in the bios and the CPU heat is never above 112C but i still feel like its overheat. Any ideas? Possible that I applied the thermal paste incorrectly? Or perhaps my heatsink is too small?

Re: 1st build- nothing happening

112c is overheating it should be in the 40's if not below.

Redo the thermal paste on the CPU heatsink make sure all 4 legs of the heatsink are tight to the motherboard.

Re: 1st build- nothing happening

The heat situation is under control.

However, I am now trying to get the OS installed. I get to the point where I start the installation and a few minutes in I'm getting that damn blue screen that windows created.

Still getting the blue screen at random times in the OC setup.

Would formatting to FAT32 help?

Re: 1st build- nothing happening

I checked the sata listings under 'integrated peripherals' and they are listed as IDE.

I'm not sure if this is what you meant or not. I'm not very familiar with the current BIOS setups.

Re: 1st build- nothing happening

Pull 1 stick of ram out and try it using only a single stick.

Re: 1st build- nothing happening

I pulled one and got the blue screen again, switched the sticks and got it again. I made sure keep the one stick in the primary slot.

Re: 1st build- nothing happening

I ran Memtest. It had 28 errors occur on test 5. The program never stopped running due to errors though.
