Bios Update causes Raid to stop working.
Haven't seen anyone else post this problem on the P4C800E-Dlx
I have 2 IDE Western Digital Drives connected to the Onboard Raid controller - These are NOT the SATA drives that seem to have a lot of posts about problems with those. The RAID was working fine. Then I flashed the BIOS. (Good thing I saved the BIOS before I flashed it!) Ver 1014.003 is the only version which seems to recognize the Raid. The Other Bios Versions (1015, 1016, 1018, 1019, and even the Beta 1020 don't seem to work with the RAID) I know that when you first install the OS, you need to install the Promise Raid Drivers, and the Device manager shows the Raid Controller. With the New BIOS versions, the Controller doesn't appear on the list. If anyone has any helpful suggestions on how to resolve this problem PLEASE let me know! Thanks Interloper |

I'm not a 100% sure but check to see if there is an updated promise driver for the new bios

Defaults?
When you flashed the bios did you go and check to make sure the bios settings related to the promise hadn't changed? My drives are SATA so it might be different but it seems as if settings change in reaction to system changes.

I haven't tried to update the Promise controller driver, nor am I sure that there is an updated driver available.
I have been back through the BIOS to see that the correct settings are present, enabling the Raid. Very frustrating. At least ASUS tech support should be open today as its no longer Presidents day. Interloper.. |

Called ASUS today and turns out that their BIOS updates include the Update for the Promise Bios. The tech said its a know problem that can occasionally occur where the Promise Bios doesn't want to update when you flash. Needs to be sent it for a new Bios chip.
Just a little worried about the 400GB or so of crap that's accumulated on the array over the past year. If I send it in, when I get it back, is there any assurance that my data will still be accessable?? I really don't know. Anyone ever have experience with Norton Ghost and DVD backup media or another good DVD backup program?? Regards INterloper |
