Loud Fan

The fan on my motherboard is getting really loud. I am going to see if its just dust, but for some reason if its not an easy fix like that, does it need to be plugged in?

Re: Loud Fan

my guess is you are speaking of the north bridge chipset fan ? a digital pic would really help?

you can buy after market fans rather cheaply / but DONT run without one

if the mobo manuf installed a chipset fan, it was for a very good reason ...........

Re: Loud Fan

yes they can .........if not .....

this one with a decent case fan close by would be better than the OEM solution

Re: Loud Fan

yes; the same as a cpu heatsink

the only thing to be careful of when removing the existign heatsink is to use a hair dryer ; heat the sink up in good shape to loosen the existing paste ......then turn the heat sink back and forth a tiny bit at a time until the paste breaks its bond to the NB chipset.........I have seen some gorillas make a real mess out of this !

the northbridge chipset is only about 3/8 inch square maybe 1/2 inch square ......sooooo the bond wont be that tuff ......you wont need a crow bar

dont hesitate to holler once you have the new one in your hands along with some artic silver 5
