NF7-S thermal diode problem
Hi, this is my first post. I have a bit of a problem with my motherboard, as stated its an ABIT NF7-S. I recently took my CPU out to clean some thermal paste off it, when i reintalled it the thermal diode behind the CPU snapped off.
Now i've had trouble with this flimsy little thing before as it didnt quite touch the back of the CPU and it was turning my PC off randomly, I had to bend it so it made the proper connection. This obviously weakened it and now its comletely broke. My PC seems to be running fine without it (fingers crossed), the only problem is i now have no way of telling the temperature of my CPU and it is scarily reading as 219 degrees (i know this is not the true temp but its still horrible to see). So is there anyway i can reattach the diode, maybe with soldering or is it just a case of leaving it and getting a new motherboard (which i cannot afford) Anyway any input and help with this will be greatly appreciated. |

Well if you didnt have thermal issues before - for example random restarts, crashes, freezes which were to heat problems then who cares about the diode ?
It sure isnt necessary to run your PC. Just ignore the wrong read temperature and keep your board. All i'd do is have an eye on the CPU fan - to make sure it always runs (maybe monitor the CPU FAN speed now instead of the CPU temp)... aslong as the fan runs your CPU is obviously fine.

Thanks for the reply. Im gonna keep the board becuase apart from the stupidly flimsy diode im really happy with it. Bit annoying about the temperature status being lost but i guess i can live with it. There must be loads of people that have suffered this problem but i've never heard mention of it, I dunno if other ABIT boards have the same design but i personally think it gives an unfortunate minus point to an otherwise excellent bit of hardware.
