BSOD daily, mouse stops working
Hi,
I have a really weird PC problem and hope you can help. First of all let me list my specs:- Microsoft Windows Vista (6.0) Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (Build 6001) AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 4GB Corsair CM2X1024-6400C5DHX (4x1GB) XFX 768MB 8800GTX Thermaltake Toughpower 750W PSU 2x 78GB WDD Raptor Sata drives (Not Raid) 1x 750GB Logitech G15 Keyboard Logitech G9 Mouse When I first switch my PC on in the mornings, it boots into windows ok but the mouse LED flashes incorrectly, one LED flashes on and off slowly. The system will BSOD within a minute. On reboot, the PC will be stable in windows, however the mouse will not move, even though the buttons on it will work fine. After 20minutes or so the mouse will suddenly work fine. This made me think that things were working ok when they warmed up, which made me think of mainboard. The software which controls the LCD screen on the keyboard always resets to default on the reboot, which is highly annoying. I have tried a different mouse/keyboard in this PC, and it worked fine. I have tried different USB ports, no change. I have tried this keyboard/mouse in another PC, they worked fine. I have had limited success in plugging in the keyboard/mouse after windows loads, I dont like doing this however, also it still fails sometimes, but I must say that even when it fails, the time before the mouse fully becomes active is usually less when using this method. Any ideas please? FYI:- I have had problems with the RAM in this PC as it requires 2.1v I believe. The RAM also died once and was replaced via RMA. |

Re: BSOD daily, mouse stops working
USB devices run off the 5v for the most part.
The 12v reading is a tad low still in spec but we've been seeing Video card problems at 11.7v Lets try using Speed fan for the voltage reading not always reliable but lets see what is reads> http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php |

Re: BSOD daily, mouse stops working
That's showing a higher 12v but there is a 5v sensor showing 0 if you're typing that isn't right.
Do you have the mouse plugged into the rear motherboard USB port? If so does it act the same on the front port? |

Re: BSOD daily, mouse stops working
All usb's are plugged into the rear ports, there are 2 ports on the front, but these are not connected, I have no instructions on how to wire them in so i'd probably end up blowing things up if I tried :(
I'm guessing that its reading 0v due to no sensor(as all was working at the time), this mainboard doesnt seem to have many sensors. Last edited by katchin; 12-25-2008 at 03:32 AM. |

Re: BSOD daily, mouse stops working
Do you have the software installed for the Logitech mouse if you do I would tend to think it's a issue with the cable on the mouse as another mouse seems to work fine and moving this one to another pc would have also moved the cable to a different position.

Re: BSOD daily, mouse stops working
I do have the software installed for it, yes.
I dont think it can be the mouse cable however, as the mouse starts to work correctly after a period of time has passed, this is without me touching the mouse. Also the mouse is fine for the rest of the day once it starts to work. Good idea though. Any other possibilities? |

Re: BSOD daily, mouse stops working
Lets try a different approach what is the error message code in the BOSD?
If you need to turn off auto reboot > Go to Start> Control Panel> Sysytem> Advanced> Startup and Recovery settings> Then untick the Auto Reboot Box After that any blue screen will stay on so you can copy and post the Complete error massage and full code. |

Re: BSOD daily, mouse stops working
i didnt see this message in time unfortunately, so i'll have to copy down the error message tomorrow.
However, a slightly new thing today, I unplugged the mouse and keyboard before switch on, and I still got a BSOD, that hasnt happened before. |

Re: BSOD daily, mouse stops working
That going to be a driver issue try uninstalling the logitech software and rebooting without the game pad(I'm assuming you have a Logitech game pad) plugged in let windows reinstall the mouse & keyboard drivers.

Re: BSOD daily, mouse stops working
I have an xbox360 USB controller for windows, totally forgot to mention it sorry.
Anyway, i've unplugged it, and disabled it in device manager. On reboot, the pc installs the mouse and keyboard as hid compliant only, it doesn't ask me for logitech software by default, and alas, still not working :( |
