Comp will not start after installing new MoBo.

*Not sure if this is in the wrong forum, if so im sorry and please move it*

Well. my comp was running fine but in a month or so i want to get a new Quad core CPU, and my MoBo was pretty old ( about 1 year ) so it could not support Quad core. so i bought This Motherboard.
http://tinyurl.com/6fwz62

This MoBo replaced http://tinyurl.com/5chsgy

My power supply is http://tinyurl.com/6l89ob

so, i took apart my comp, piece my piece. and put it back together with my new MoBo and a new set of 4 gig Corsair memory. 2X 2gig sticks. i have rebuilt this comp 2 times in the past, but only to put it into a new case. and now when everything is hooked up correctly ( i have checked and rechecked the connection 3 times now ) when i click the power on button, nothing happens. when checking the main 24 pin ATX power cable, i plugged it into the Motherboard with the power supply on, the fan and light on my heat sink fan flashed for a second or so. thats all the activity i have got so far. any suggestions would be great. thanks.

Re: Comp will not start after installing new MoBo.

and welcome to the Forum

Double check the eight prong CPU power plug . . that could cause the symptoms you describe

Otherwise, click the Bench Test link in my signature and follow those troubleshooting steps

Re: Comp will not start after installing new MoBo.

well, something i forgot to mention was, that when i got the power supply it has a 8 pin and a 4 pin power cable for CPU power. and my old Motherboard used the 4 pin. and my new one uses the 8 pin, and when i got my power supply the 8 pin one came with like 1.5 on the 8 pins melted a little bit. so i used a lighter and heated up the plastic around these 2 melted pin holes and used a knife and picked away at the plastic that was melted over the 2 copper pin slots. it fits in perfectly now, no problems.

That could be the problem , , what ever caused the heat that melted the plastic may have shorted something in the plug . . any chance you have nother power supply you can try?

Edit: . . I saw this comment in the reviews

I'm using this with a 4 pin cpu power supply connector with no issues, just be sure to plug it into the correct side (right) of the 8 pin mobo connector
You could try the 4 pin in the right side and see if that lets it start

Re: Comp will not start after installing new MoBo.

This is the 8 pin connector that i tried to fix.

This is The 24 Pin ATX Power cable.

This is My motherboard without my graphics card.

This is my Comp. no graphics card or Hard drives.

Quick question, not having my graphics card or hard drives in while trying to power on should not effect it, correct?

Re: Comp will not start after installing new MoBo.

With no grafic card, you should get beeps . . that is a part of the bench test process

when you put the mobo in the case, you did make sure that the bottom of the mobo isnt directly touching the case

Re: Comp will not start after installing new MoBo.

ya, the MoBo is on the risers with non-washer screws to ground the board. and for beeps, my case does not have a built in speaker.

Re: Comp will not start after installing new MoBo.

That would indicate something wrong with the way it was installed . . be very carefull when you reassemble it. . particularly look for extra risers that do not match your motherboard holes
