Re: Stop_Check Error
I ran memtest on each stick individually, no errors, many passes.
I had an idea that maybe the hard-drive was bad, even the the chkdsk said it wasnt, so I got a new hard-drive and reinstalled windows, so far I am blue-screening at about 1/8 of the rate i previously was. The good news is that, and that I am actually getting .DMP files to list. So im posting a zipped version of the .dmp file for consideration. Lemme know what you find it in, please. Thanks! |

Re: Stop_Check Error
Quote:
The bugcheck 0x9c = MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION = a fatal machine check exception has occurred. The first thing I noticed was the name of the dump file - Code:
a531d7ce-175e-461a-9b46-6ee3665fa0a8.dmp 54,799 12/30/08 12:34:22 Where did you find this dump? Look in c:\windows\minidump - if there are any files in it - please get them. There are a few system reports/files that I would like to see. Please do this - Download Live SysInternals Autoruns from Microsoft TechNet & run it. Let it scan - status is on bottom-left of screen - when complete, save as an ARN file (default file extention). Now, bring up a cmd/DOS prompt and run the following 1-by-1 - START | Run | cmd | paste the following (to paste into DOS screen,right-click at top of DOS screen, select Edit, select Paste): Driver Query - save as text file after Notepad opens - Code:
"driverquery" > "%temp%\0.txt" & driverquery /v >> "%temp%\0.txt" & start notepad "%temp%\0.txt" Code:
where /f /t *.dll > "%temp%\1.txt" & where /f /t *.sys >> "%temp%\1.txt" & start notepad "%temp%\1.txt" Code:
tasklist /svc /fi "imagename eq svchost.exe" > "%temp%\task0.txt" & tasklist /v >> "%temp%\task0.txt" & tasklist /m >> "%temp%\task0.txt" & start notepad "%temp%\task0.txt" Code:
dxdiag START | Run | type msinfo32 | save in default NFO file format - you'll see the NFO file extention when you go to save it Please zip all files up - including any dumps that you find and attach to your next post. Any ? - please let me know. Happy New Year. jcgriff2 . |

Re: Stop_Check Error
Ok, im in the process of beginning what JC has asked. Just to let you know, now i am getting the blue-screen error message of...
"0xB2000000" in place of the "0xF2000000" Also - the .dmp file I posted was found in the firefox folder. I don't have a C:\Windows\Minidump folder for some reason. Ok... Update is as follows: Msinfo32 - when i tried to save, MSinfo would freeze at the end. Tried to open the file it said it is corrupt. Tried this a bunch of times. The second command line you wanted me to enter - "'where' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" Everything else is zipped and included. Re: Stop_Check Error
Side note - Crashes happen most often while trying too play "Matrix Online" now. But I was able to leave this game on for (while afk, I'm not THAT much of a loser lol) hours at a time.
Thanks for the help - happy new year :) |

Re: Stop_Check Error
Hi -
Thanks for running those commands. The SET command looks fine - it does show \windows\system32 as primary in the PATH cmd - so that is not the issue as to why XP not controlling crash process here. I did take not that your video drivers are current (Oct 2008), but audio are > 3 yrs old. See if update available for them: Code:
Description: Realtek AC97 Audio
Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_026B&SUBSYS_0CA8105B&REV_A2
Driver Name: ALCXWDM.SYS
Driver Version: 5.10.0000.5990 (English)
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
WHQL Logo'd: Yes
Date and Size: 12/16/2005 16:50:30, 3842560 bytes
3 more items, please: 1. msinfo32 NFO file corrupt - for some reason this is appearing more often. Don't understand the "freezing" you mentioned. Please re-run and save as TEXT file START | RUN | type msinfo32 - save as TEXT file 2. Application Event Viewer Log 3. System Evt Vwr Log #2 & #3 can be found in c:\windows\system32\config - the file names end in EVT - possible full names are appevent.evt & sysevent.evt. If you have trouble locating them, please let me know. See if there are any more dump files in the FireFox folder - do system-wide search for files containing DMP - enable hidden and system files in search. When you do find one - even the old Firefox dump - there s/b a text file that goes with it. Copy all of the files out if you have to. Don't include any that are >100k. Zip them all up and attach - if too large, I'll send email address. RE: the "where" command - it is something that I use in Vista and is probably not in XP. As I mentioned, you are running XP SP3 - that is good. Are you running IE6 or IE7? Have you tried to un-install Firefox and re-install w/ updated version? The Vista thread I mentioned dealing with Firefox was rather interesting as the user somehow got a hold of a "checked" build of Firefox. A "checked" build is one that developers place "breaks" in - to purposely cause BSODs when the program hits certain points. I would try the un-install/re-install - use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to get rid of your existing Firefox version - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 That is it for now. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |

Re: Stop_Check Error
No other .dmp files, nor in the firefox folder where I found them. Ran a system wide search, no avail.
about to use the microsoft utility to uninstall firefox. I'll let you know how that turns out. Downloading a 2008/10 driver for AC'97. Let you know what comes of that too. Again, thank you thank you thank you for the help. _______________________________________________________ Got the new driver (Finally! Why are most driver pages such a pain in the ***?!) Tried to use that windows clean utility - but it didn't show up in the list so I guess I'm ok with that? Testing again too see what happens. Last edited by Chainer; 01-02-2009 at 12:00 PM. |

Re: Stop_Check Error
That's OK that nothing in Cleanup Utility.
Do you know if Firefox newer version? I didn't see attachment for msinfo32 text file - please attach to next post. Another item to run, please - but I am not sure if it will work in XP. At worst you'll get "bad command or filename" &/or empty notepad. It is WMIC - Windows Management Instrumentation commands - I want to check your system crash dump settings and page file (needed on OS drive and large enough to produce crash dumps). Download zip file and run batch file - you'll see black DOS screen for split second then Notepad will open. If blank - no go w/ XP. If data in it - better yet. Paste into next post. Not much there to warrant attachment. http://www.techsupportforum.com/atta...2_12-22-08.zip JC . |
