Cannot Get To BIOS Settings
The problem all started when I recently changed the frequency on my memory from 666 to 800 and now my computer will not boot and all that happens is my PSU fan turns on, my optical drive makes a sound and then everything turns off within one second. After about 3 seconds everything starts up again without me pressing any buttons, but then turns off quickly again.
I have tried resetting the BIOS and even removing the CMOS battery and replacing it. I tried removing all PCI cards and still have no luck. I checked out all of my sticks of memory and they are all OK and have no damage to them, nor do any other components from my system. I even tried changing the voltage on my PSU From 115 to 230 and the computer at least continues to run the fans without turning off within 1 second, but still will not boot. I would appreciate any help. Intel DG45ID Socket 775 Motherboard OCZ SLI 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz (x4) Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 3Ghz 2MB 800Mhz Power Up Standard 450w ATX Power Supply WD Caviar 320GB Serial ATA HD 7200/16MB/SATA-3G Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 |

Re: Cannot Get To BIOS Settings
Clear the CMOS by either removing the motherboard battery for a few minutes and then returning it /or/ by moving the jumper from pins 1 & 2 to pins 2 & 3 for a few minutes...then, put them back. Try it and see if this helps.
Be sure to ground yourself and have that unplugged from the wall before getting inside that case.

Re: Cannot Get To BIOS Settings
[changing the voltage on my PSU From 115 to 230]
this was not a wise move see if you can borrow a quality 550w or better to try in it

Re: Cannot Get To BIOS Settings
set it up out of case where you can get a good look at everything
set it up out of the case on a piece of cardboard with cpu video ram speaker and see if you get post check you have the correct amount of standoffs no more no less that they line up with the holes in the m/board usually 9 it could be overheating would have the samw symptoms redo the paste on the cpu with some arctic silver http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm Power Supply Information and Selection

Re: Cannot Get To BIOS Settings
ok i tried what you said and still no luck. I plugged everything in but still nothing. The computer just turns on then off right away.
Is it possible that my motherboard is "confused" as to the setting of the memory and is trying to run it at the improper frequency? I can't think of what could be causing this. It was a simple change in the BIOS and resetting the BIOS and clearing the CMOS will not fix the problem. |

Re: Cannot Get To BIOS Settings
ok i tried taking out the CMOS battery, pulling the plug from the back of the computer, taking the 24pin and 6pin power connectors from the mobo and held the power button for 5 seconds and left the CMOS out overnight and still no luck. The computer is doing exactly the same thing that it was doing before.
I even tried a stick of memory that is verified to work with the mobo and that did not work either. Any more suggestions? Please. |

Re: Cannot Get To BIOS Settings
yes i tried setting it up outside of my case with only the power connected, the processor, processor fan, and 1 stick of memory in the slot closest to the processor.
I even tried taking the processor fan off, cleaning off the old paste and putting some more arctic silver on there and reseated the heatsink, but still go the same result. still no luck, any other suggestions? |

Re: Cannot Get To BIOS Settings
if you remove the ram and boot do you hear the error code it is missing
if not either there is not enough power or the m/b has a problem

Re: Cannot Get To BIOS Settings
what was the other psu you tried it would need to be at least a quality 550 for onboard video or a basic video card

Re: Cannot Get To BIOS Settings
even though it was not the best PSU it should still have been enough to power on the computer with no peripherals attached...a 300W PSU could've done that
