[SOLVED] Asus A8V Deluxe

Upgrading O/S from Windows 2000 to XP.
Attempting to do a clean Install.
Load the current SATA Driver from Asus (Downloaded File: 378ata_100104528.zip, unziped, used makedisk application) by hitting F6 during the start up screen.
Still unable to detect Hard Drive.

Using 2x WD 120gig HD's
Haven't changed anything Hardware wise just looking to update O/S

Re: Asus A8V Deluxe

Back up a bit so I understand. Are the 2 WD Sata's in a raid configuration? Are there any IDE hard drives in the rig? Do you see the hard drives in the bios, like are they being recognized?

Re: Asus A8V Deluxe

Bios detects both HD's.
No IDE HD's just a cd-rw and dvd-rw connected through IDE.

There are 4x Sata ports on the Motherboard. SATA1, SATA2, SATA_RAID1, SATA_RAID2. I have the HD's connected through Sata1 and sata2.

Hope that covers what you ask'd

Re: Asus A8V Deluxe

Go to the bios setup menu and move to the Boot area. When there, make sure your boot order or boot sequence is set to:

CDRom - 1st
Floppy - 2nd
Hard Drive - 3rd

Then, migrate down to the Hard Drive Priority and make sure the boot hard drive is listed there FIRST.

Don't forget to save before you exit if you change anything.

Tell us if this is done on your computer or you have to change it. If it is set this way, then we need to look at other options if it does not work.

BTW, do these drives still have data on them, or are they formatted?

Re: Asus A8V Deluxe

Floppy had first prioity before cdrom drive. Everything else was setup correctly

Changed everything to your specifications attempted to install again with no luck.

The Harddrives still have data on them. Boot Drive has 2 partitions. System and Music. Was planning on just formating the system partition to upgrade the O/S.

I'm asuming it's just the wrong driver I'm installing for xp or possibly the new driver doesn't work with the version of BIOS i'm running. Since at the moment windows 2000 is installed and running at the moment with no issues on seeing the Hd's

Re: Asus A8V Deluxe

Issue Found and Hard Drives Found.

Needed to install the VIA Raid_Sata Drivers instead of the Promise Sata driver. Bit confusing but got there in the end.

Thank you for your help. Love the forums and you helped me around troubleshooting what the problem was.

Cheers
