Hi, and welcome to TSF. What was this computer before the hardware change? Was the computer pretty fast originally, and then seemed something changed. A little more detail here would be helpful. I'm afraid if you've made drastic hardware changes to try to compensate for software issues. And therefore have so far gained nothing. If you plan to keep the hardware as it is now, you may need to re-install the software. That end result will be a faster computer. I just suspect the hardware was unnecessary as a software correction on the existing system may have been accomplished without a re-install and thereby losing all your personal data. And it's probably not too late to go back either if you would like to.

more info
Well it was an old 500 Mhz machine with 64 M on board so we decided to upgrade the hard drive, and went to windows xp (now it takes probly 4 mins to boot up. So we got a new intell MB and new chip and mem, and I ASSUMED that I could just switch parts out and it would just run.
Now when I boot the machine a screen comes up with a couple of different choices the one that is highlited is Start windows normaly, I hit enter it reboots to the same screen. I made a Boot disk from my machine and tried to use it and I can get to A: but cant go anywhere from there. I have the CD from the mother board but cant get to it. I read something about preparing windows to goto another MB but the machine doesnt do what the site it should. Thanks for your time I ll check back. |

WinXP does not like drastic changes in hardware. When you change the motherboard this is consided a major hardware change. the device drivers and settings are different that what it used to be. You may need to go into safe mode, unistall the drivers, then re-install the drivers for the new hardware. The easiest and probably the best solution would be to re-install the OS. If you have files or data on this drive that you want to keep, I would suggest getting another drive and slave your old drive so you can retrive the data from there.
