Re: I wanna upgrade but I dunno if it's compatible
Your motherboard only supports Socket 754 CPUs:
http://www.fic.com.tw/product/mother...D/K8MC51G.aspx which are obsolete, but a few are still available (new) online and on eBay. Any of them will be a bottleneck to modern gameplay. The video card will plug into your board according to the website noted above, but if your current PSU is the one supplied with the rest of the computer, it's probably under-powered. The e8500 CPU will not work because it requires a Socket 775 motherboard and proper support. The RAM won't work, it's DDR2 and your motherboard only supports DDR. The external HDD will plug into your board (USB 2.0), but it won't enhance your performance from a gaming standpoint.

Re: I wanna upgrade but I dunno if it's compatible
K, this is probably a stupid question but could I buy a new motherboard for the computer I have and install it that it'd work w/ those things, but w/ the rest of the current set up I got, I can't afford an entirely new computer

Re: I wanna upgrade but I dunno if it's compatible
Is that what I fondly refer to as a 'close and play' computer?? That is, a name brand, all-in-one, ready to go unit. Like Compaq, Gateway, eMachines, HP, etc.
The reason I ask, many of those have odd-ball mounting points for the motherboard, and as a result an aftermarket mobo won't mount because the mounting holes don't line up. Yours may be fine. Also, how about posting your computer specs in 'User CP', or your next reply. Specifics are required, model #'s, part #'s, etc.

Re: I wanna upgrade but I dunno if it's compatible
I didn't fully understand that so this probably won't be the right answer, but it's a T3410 eMachines computer.

Re: I wanna upgrade but I dunno if it's compatible
I found your computer:
http://www.emachines.com/products/pr...tml?prod=T3410 but have no idea if an aftermarket motherboard will mount in the case. The list you made for your 1st post is just about a whole computer. Going with your initial suggestions and expanding them a little, you need: motherboard CPU PSU (eMachines OEM power supplies are NOTORIOUS for being weak) RAM GPU case (if yours won't accept the new board) {I hope someone that can answer the mobo mounting question jumps in at any time.} Your keyboard, mouse, and hard drive will work if the new board accepts the same connections as your current components. Your monitor will work. The CD/DVD writer in your eMachines should work in a new case (if you need to buy one). A 'barebones' computer might be the way to go, but they usually lack some key components (like the Operating System), and if you're not careful you'll end up with a not very desireable component or two included with the package. I'm beginning to paint a pretty dismal picture, huh??

Re: I wanna upgrade but I dunno if it's compatible
Emachines usually use a standard ATX or mAtx Motherboard how many expansion slot does yours have?
One word of note though it's usually just worth it to buy a cheap case and not have the problems of front panel wiring and fitting the board. > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147057 Also if you change the motherboard you will need a new copy of Windows if yours is the OEM copy supplied with the pc according to the EULA > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116485 Will will also need at least a 650w power supply for the 8800GT. > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9005&Tpk=650tx Motherboard > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128347 |

Re: I wanna upgrade but I dunno if it's compatible
Expansion slots are where add in cards like video cards, Modems Etc. would plug into the board and stick through the rear of the case Atx boards have at least 5 slots while mAtx have a maximum of 4 it's an easy way to determine the size of the board without measuring it with a ruler.

What about this, will that run as good as what I would end up building with those parts?

Re: I wanna upgrade but I dunno if it's compatible
That's a micro(mAtx, uAtx) if you want a gaming rig you'll need a bigger case to fit the video card and keep it from overheating.

Re: I wanna upgrade but I dunno if it's compatible
I ussually just leave the case open next to my fan, that wouldn't work?

Re: I wanna upgrade but I dunno if it's compatible
That PC you just posted would be a good gamer, with 5GB ram and a Quad Phenom, the Video could use a tiny upgrade...but could run cod4 on high. That system is refurbed but, it shouldn't make a difference.
and for 599$, you can't find much better. And you did say you weren't to savvy when building a PC, this could be the best buy.

Re: I wanna upgrade but I dunno if it's compatible
So it'd end up costing more than the 906 I'd figured up with the things I posted/y'all posted before in the end?
