I STRONGLY recommend against running the processor without a fan. If your MB has temperature sensing, you could fire up SpeedFan to check it's vitals.

well i would want to do that because there is a window on the side and the fan looks ugly, takes up room and power supply, and adds loudness.
were in BIOS would i find it? the fan on the side is directly above the processor just a couple inches away. that link doesnt work. |

You can download everest, it will give you all the information you need about your system,
I agree with fox on the leave the fan on , you could always get a Zalman fan , they look cool and are also much quieter than a stock unit A good fan controller will also give you the option to adjust the speed of your fans and in doing this reduce noise

that is strange , your cpu sensor may be not working, what motherboard do you have ?
this is what I have so you should have had something the same, I checked on my other computer and it displays the same info, maybe that is why you can not get the temps in your bios Motherboard 42 °C (108 °F) CPU 35 °C (95 °F) Seagate ST340014A 46 °C (115 °F)

yeah that is the same version I am running, I went through the manual for your mobo but it does not seem to mention temp monitors but I find it hard to believe that it wont have any so I will go back through it and see if I missed anything. I don't imagine that it would be something you would have to enable

Some of the cheaper motherboards dont have temp sensors that most of us are so used to. Nothing unusual...
And DONT take the fan/heatsink off the CPU. Even with the case fans blowing on the CPU - the little surface of the CPU cant move 60-70W away from your CPU core - for that you need the MUCH larger surface of the heatsink. If you take the heatsink/fan off your P4 it'll force it to reduce its speed (thermal management) in order to make sure it doesnt fry. Your pC will become unbarebly slow and eventually your CPU will die cause its not designed to constantly use the "throttle" to reduce heat causing speed. If you are worried about looks and noise - why not invest 20$ in a nice looking heatsink/fan (with LEDs, Crome Fans, nice grills etc) that will probably be even less noisy than the fan you have right now. There are TONS of possible solutions on the market. |
