The one thing you must relize is this MB has 2 SATA controllers. The Intel ICH5 embedded in the south bridge and a Promise controller. You have to make sure that which ever controller you have the drive connected to is enabled in the BIOS. |

Sorry to leave you hanging, back to work.
The MB has 2 SATA controllers The Promise controller and the Intel ICH5R embedded in the south bridge. The lower SATA ports are the ones for the Promise controller and the upper ones are for the Intel controller. If you connect the drives to the lower ports you need to make sure they show up in the Promise BIOS and not the MB BIOS and make sure that you enable the Promise controller in the MB BIOS. Same thing with the Intel controller. It needs to be enabled in the MB BIOS but the drives will show up in the Main BIOS with the PATA drives. Normally as IDE5 or IDE6. |

for the Promise controller, go into the BIOS and under the advanced tab, scroll down to Onboard Devices Configuration, enter, then scroll down to OnBoard Promise Controller and enable it. Then scoll down to operating mode and change it to IDE. If the Promise controller is enabled in the MB BIOS, then the FastTrack BIOS will appear after the main BIOS posts. You can then go into the FastTrak BIOS and configure the HDs there.
For the Intel ICH5R, in the main screen of the MB BIOS scroll down to the IDE configuration, enter, and under Onboard IDE Operation Mode choose enhanced mode. Enhanced Mode Support On S-ATA, Configure S-ATA as RAID, No. The SATA drives that are connected to the SATA ports of the ICH5R will show as Third IDE Master or Slave. |

If you have the drive on the ICH5R (SATA1 or SATA2) then you should not have to do anything but set the boot priority in the bios. However if you are to use the Promise controller (SATARAID1 or SATARAID2) without a raid setup then you will need to load the fastrack 378 SATA driver for the drive(s) to work and be recognized in IDE mode. There are two drivers on the mobo CD both with very similar names, you'd need the one I listed above, which is for NON RAID setups on the promise controller. Doing so would allow you to have a total of 6 drives on the mobo ! (2 IDE, 2 SATA on the ICH5R, and 2 SATA on the Promise controller)

Well, since the mobo has 2 IDE and 4 SATA ports.....yes, the other drives will have to be SATA....(unless of course you want to add a pci card to support SCSI drives or other SATA drives (neither of which I reccomend)) The IDE raid port is only for raid setups....the normal setup would be for instance...a ide drive for OS, and a raid setup on the ICH5R, with storage drives on the promise controller (because it shares the pci bus )

Hi:
Two IDE Channels (IRQ14 & IRQ15), each with a Master and with a Slave device. Total of four, before the tribulations of SATA! This works: Put the two Western Digital 80GB IDE's on a ribbon-cable going to the "SEC_IDE" motherboard connector. (I am looking at page 2-22 in my P4C800E-Deluxe book, NOT my motherboard itself). Set the jumper on one drive to Master and the jumper on the other to Slave, or set both to Cable-Select. Windows is installed on the Maxtor 60GB drive which is set up as Master on a ribbon-cable going to the "PRI_IDE" motherboard connector. Set the CD-ROM jumper to Slave, and add the CD-ROM to this ribbon. (Overall performance may be better if the CD-ROM is the Secondary Slave, but I have no way of knowing). Hopefully, your BIOS Setup Utility Main page will now detect: >Primary IDE Master: [Maxtor, etc] >Primary IDE Slave: [CD-ROM, etc] >Secondary IDE Master: [WDC WD800JB, etc] >Secondary IDE Slave: [WDC WD800JB, etc] >IDE Configuration Under IDE Configuation, I am running: >Onboard IDE Operate Mode: [Compatible Mode] >IDE Port Settings: [P-ATA Ports Only] >IDE Detect Time Out (Sec): [35] >HDD Detect Time: [Quick] Regards, Ed Jones |

Re: HDD hook-up P4C800E-deluxe
You can in fact get 4 SATA devices on the P4C800E-Deluxe.
Attached is a doc file with some step-by-step directions. It requires updating your BIOS, changing some BIOS settings, managing your hardware settings in windows and moving some hardware around. But honestly, it's not that hard...... Once you actually figure it. ![]() I'm posting this here because there's a lot of stuff about this on the search pages, and this is one of the 1st few responses that comes up. Hope it helps someone out. |
