[SOLVED] Random Shutdown during Boot sequence
I built my computer about 8 months ago and it has been running well until today when the thing just would not start up.
I was helping a friend test his computer with my graphics card recently so I had my GPU plugged into the mobo but it was not screwed into the case. Today I went in and screwed in the GPU to the mobo and found that one of the pins was loose on the cpu fan, so i tightened that too. I went to boot the system and it got past all posting it shows started booting windows and dead. The computer had completely shut down. I thought this was kind of strange and tried again. Same problem. Windows then interupts the boot cycle and tries to run a diagnostic on the disk. It said it was a three stage test and it died trying to start the third test (This happened twice at the same spot). I then tried to go into the bios, but it died while I was in the bios environment. Any ideas? |

Re: Random Shutdown during Boot sequence
Alright, I cleaned the cpu and heatsink the best I could, and reapplied the thermal paste. It did stay on longer, however it died again. Should I keep thinking along those lines and get a new heatsink, or do you think it could be something else?
My CPU was running hot for a while and I was thinking about getting a new one, however I don't want to buy this if my problem is likely unrelated. |
