Which one is the correct SATA Driver for my motherboard?

Hello!

I was able to install Windows XP SP1 on a SATA Drive without installing the SATA Drivers by a floppy disk... donīt know why?!
Now I read, that this should not have been possible without the correct drivers.

My Hard Drive is very slow and I have some other problems, so Iīd like to reinstall Windows XP, this time with the correct SATA drivers.

Well, I own a MSI P45 Neo-F Motherboard with the Intel ICH10 Chipset (it says so on the homepage). But when I look on the CD of the motherboard there are several IDE or SATA drivers or whatever. I couldnīt figure out, which one is the right one.

There are:

Acard
Intel
JMicron
Promise
Silicon Image und
VIA Drivers

So, which files should I copy on the disk to get one SATA Hard Disk (no RAID system) properly working.

Thank you for any help!

PS: http://www.msi-computer.de/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=1482&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170 this is my motherboard.

Unless your mobo manual says to do it, and you are not in a raid array, I wouldnt
mess with it. As long as bios sees your drives as ide, and not raid you
are good. I never have had to install sata drivers in a non raid array.
EVER..

Re: Which one is the correct SATA Driver for my motherboard?

Ok, thank you!

So, you think that the lack of the driver isnīt an issue? My Windows XP is starting very slow and when I try to open the explorer it takes a while.

And sometimes in games which run normally smooth the picture stucks for 2 or 3 seconds until it goes on. It seems the game has to load a new sound file or something else and it takes a while to search it on the hard drive.

Maybe I got something wrong. Is SATA an advanced IDE Standard or is it totally different. So why is it ok that my motherboard detects the hard drive as an IDE drive instead of SATA?

Can some one clear things up?

Re: Which one is the correct SATA Driver for my motherboard?

Unless you are in a raid array bios treats the hdds like a ide drive.
You need to make sure raid is disabled in bios.,unless your running
raid, which you are not.

Re: Which one is the correct SATA Driver for my motherboard?

look at other causes,if it was a driver it would not be running
first suspect is heat and power
what are you running
video card
cpu
m/board
ram
power supply
brand
wattage

any error message
check your tempretures and voltages in the bios and post them

Re: Which one is the correct SATA Driver for my motherboard?

I have an Antec Sonata III Case which came with an Earthwatt 500w 80+ PSU.
a MSI P45 Neo-F Motherboard with Bios flashed to 1.5,
a Core 2 Duo 8500 not overclocked,
a Sapphire 4850 toxic video card not overclocked
2 GB Ram CL4 800 Corsair DHX ,
the mentioned Samsung Spinpoint 500GB 16MB SATA II
and a DVD Writer by LG Electronics.

I have installed Windows XP with Service Pack 3

Core Temp is around 38°C in Idle
and around 49°C under load

hmm--> vCore is at 1,192 (Sisoft Sandra says thatīs too high and indeed the VID for the 8500 is 1,15- so is that a problem? I didnīt change anything in BIOS)

Is there a stand by mode for hard drives, so it takes a while to open the explorer and could this happen while playing a game?

Thank you so far!

Re: Which one is the correct SATA Driver for my motherboard?

the cpu voltage will increase by load and decrease as the load comes off
the 500w looks on the light side for the system
you would expect to find a quality psu 550-650w

Re: Which one is the correct SATA Driver for my motherboard?

Ok, thanks!

But I think the problem lies somewhere else.

I talked with different people before I bought my computer and everyone said the 500w would be fine if I wonīt put much more devices in it.

Maybe the PSU has not enough Ampere on the lines but I read 2 or 3 tests in the internet and they all come to the conclusion that itīs a quite good PSU even though itīs not by a famous good quality brand like Tagan, Enermax or BeQuiet.

I removed some programs from the autostart and now Windows boots much faster (ok, thatīs obvious...). Above all Antivir slowed my system up.

I also had removed the DVD Autoplay with XP Antispy- so I tried to switch it on again and now the Explorer pops up in no time- so I think that was it.

But I still have this interruptions now and then while Iīm playing a game.
