is this a MB problem?
I have been having heating problems on one of the comps in the home, the cpu and southbridge are getting temps of 75 celcius under full load, i checked the fan speed for the cpu and it was showing at 2740 rpm at idle as well as under full load, i replace the heatsink and fan with a new one, and the new fan was showing speeds of 3400 rpm at idle, put the comp under full load again and the temps also went through the roof...fan speed never increased from 3400 rpm
would there be a problem with the MB not to increase fan speed as the work load increases? cpu is prescott 3.0 |

Re: is this a MB problem?
Try to do BIOS update...
update the driver for chipset and display.... you need to do cleaning of the MB sometime it helps... try to add a fan in the tower to through the hot air out of the system... as prescot processor releases more heat then other processor... check...

Re: is this a MB problem?
Not sure what the heat issue could be but my cpu fan speed is running at 1400 rpm's as I type this. I have yet to see it get above 3000 rpm even under load and my room is pretty hot right now. I'm pretty sure your fan is running at top speed.
What paste did you use to seat the heatsink onto the cpu? Pauldo |

Re: is this a MB problem?
Where are the two case fans located and which direction are they blowing. YOu might have to redo that thermal paste. If you do that, clean off the old (always must do that) and follow these directions:
Applying Artic Silver Thermal Paste

Re: is this a MB problem?
the thermal paste used was artic silver 5, the case fans has one pulling air in and the other pushing it out the back,
i have put in a cpu before, the comp i'm using for putting the messages here i built myself, and is running wonderfully I can understand the cpu heating if the cpu fan is not working properly but what will cause the southbridge to be getting the same temps, the comp was brought new and until 2 months ago never got temps above 55 C on the southbridge, now under full load the cpu and southbridge are both at 75 C or above, is it possible the controller for fan speed detection have died so the MB doesnt know to increase fan speed |

Re: is this a MB problem?
It really sounds as if you aren't getting enough cool air inside the case.
What kind of case do you have this in? If you didn't build this one what's the model of the computer? Not sure what you are talking about with fan speed. Can you see the speed of your case fans? 3400 rpm is pretty high these days on a cpu fan (cheapest fan on Newegg runs as high as 4000rpm) so it is probably running at it's fastest speed possible. What heatsink and fan did you purchase? Pauldo |
