Cpu Upgrade Question
If i install a cpu that is the same socket but rated higher than supported on the motherboard, will it just throttle it down to the highest supported speed or will i risk damage to the cpu and/ or motherboard? I should clarify that i am not intentionally trying to do this but do not know the highest supported processor for my motherboard and am wondering if i risk damaging anthing by upgrading to one that is a few levels higher

Re: Cpu Upgrade Question
Sometimes the cpu will just throttle down to some slow speed.
But more often than not, it just wont boot. No harm will come to either mobo or cpu, from my experience. Find out the maker of the mobo and go to there website and see if the board supports the cpu you are thinking of using.
