Question [SOLVED] Asus P4S533-X How to upgrade USB 1.0 ports to 2.0?

I have a system with a Asus P4S533-X motherboard which has 1.0 USB ports. From Asus' site I have downloaded an upgrade which will upgrade my USB ports from 1.0 to 2.0 but when I try to run the upgrade I always encounter a problem. My problem is that when I run the upgrade a get a message that says "Setup has detected that the service pack version of the system installed is newer than the upgrade you are applying to it. You can only install this update on a computer with no Service Pack installed".

I am running Windows XP with Service pack 2. This was the only USB port upgrade on their site. Is there something that I can do to make it work on my computer?

Thank you.

The difference between USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 is not a software/drivers issue.
It's physical.
If your motherboard has USB 1.0 then the only way you'll get USB 2.0 is by installing an adapter.

Enable USB 2.0 in bios.

Thank you OMG.

Andrew, according to Asus, your motherboard has 6 USB 2.0 ports max.
Why are you looking for an upgrade?
Are you using a USB peripheral that will not run at USB2.0?
What was the update that would not install?

According to my computer I don't have any USB 2.0 ports. If I plug in a USB storage device for example a bubble will pop up in the task bar saying "This USB device can perform faster, click here to find a high speed USB 2.0 port". Then if I click it says that I have no hi-speed USB 2.0 ports

Unfortunately I can't send a direct link to the download because when I try the link just sends you to the download section.

Open bios, USB 2.0 make sure its set "enabled"
check though bios where there is a setting saying (S1) (S3) these might appear in bios a (S1pos) (S3pos).. set that to (S1) this setting makes most your usb ports 2.0.. usally 1-2 ports are reserved for USB wake from (sleep/hibernation)
exit and save settings!

If your device show that error use another port.

Re: Asus P4S533-X How to upgrade USB 1.0 ports to 2.0?

In device manager, do you have any red or yellow marks in the USB Area? Also, open the USB area and see if you have the words "enhanced" anywhere in that area. If you do, then select each area under the USB and right click each and select "update drivers." See if that helps. BTW, do be sure you follow the advice of OMG to enable those USB options in the bios before you do the device manager checking.

After all that it ended up being that it wasn't enabled in the bios.

Thank you OMG and everyone else for your help.
