gt5412 with e8400

i was wondering if i can change my gateway gt5412 proccesor e4300 with a e8400
before i make any uneccesary changes to my computer

Doubt it.
The chipset you have is the Intel 945G with a FSB Speed of 1066MHz.
The E8400 has a FSB of 1333Mhz.

You could always ask Gateway though, what processor upgrades are compatible.

(Sadly, System Manufacturers don't make a CPU Support List available online for the simple reason that they don't want you upgrading. They want you buying a new PC).

Should support E6700 2x2MB (2.66GHz, B2, 65W) 1066
IMHO call GW ask if their bios supports this.
