Motherboard overheating

Hello.

I have a pretty odd problem with my computer. The motherboard is overheating to a pretty serious degree; the auxiliary temperature is 82 degrees C and up, all other temperatures seem fine, which also means that the MB temperature in the BIOS looks all right. At first this would seem like a motherboard malfunction, but I doubt that in this case, because this is the third board I'm using - the second I got on warranty and the current one is of a different model and brand.
I'm quite certain another component is causing the problem, or has been damaging the boards. I have tried removing everything but the motherboard and the processor, but the problem remains. One of the memory modules turned out to be damaged as well. I haven't had the chance to try it with another processor, but that's my highest bet right now. No testing or benchmarking utilities have found anything wrong and the computer runs all right for now, but it will start bluescreening more often in time.

The current motherboard is an ASUS M3N78 pro, the processor an AMD AM2 6000+, memories Corsair XMS2 800MHz 4x1GB and an 8800GT graphics card by Sparkle. The motherboard is brand new and the rest about half a year old.

What I want to know is if anyone has had the same or a similar problem. Help will be much appreciated. And if there's anything more you need to know, do ask.

Re: Motherboard overheating

Hey there,
I have looked on ASUS Web Site review about your current Motherboard and I come to conclusion that you have NVidia Chipset...
It is normal thing for NVidia NForce Chipset to be hot but that hot is just odd...
BIOS temperature sometimes could be wrong...
Start PC and after few minutes touch passive cooler on chipset...
If it is really hot, then chipset is overheating...
I see that you have a passive cooler on chipset
[it is little cooler with 'ASUS' tag on it]
I could suggest to put active cooler on passive one [5mm]...
But stay and listen what other people would suggest you...
Would be good also to post system specifications...
Hope this will help you mate...
P.S. Just one more question:
Did you try to overclock CPU???

Re: Motherboard overheating

I am no tech..................but I was having the same problem.................I opened it........had a small container of alchol...........dipped q-Tips in the alchol...........and clean all the dirt off each fan...........particularly the one on to of the CPY...............took an hour and 40 q-tips later it was done.........also took a drill and dilled 10 holes on the bottom left to allow for more air flow. Works fine now.
