serious raid problems
Here is my problem. I have reflashed the bios and am trying to do a raid 0 on with the intel chipset on a p4p800e deluxe. the drives are 2 western digital 120 sata drives. I can and have ran them in an array on the promise controller. And they work fine. If i try to run them on the intel the raid bios wont boot and just sits there. when i reboot it just goes through post and reboots. Also i think that this is related. When I install the primary ide drivers of the disk my dvd burner freaks out and I get bad burns.
So I reflashed the bios back to 1002 to reflash the ic5r chip. and to no avail. Please help

how did you install the drivers, ( F6 during windows install ), the intel raid is better suited to a O/S install than the promise and is faster as well, but to my knowledge is easier to install from a clean hard disk
have a look at clintfans thread on intel raid http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=12119

You will have problems if the O/S is already installed on your h/d if you are trying to setup a intel raid0 , so I think you will need clean h/d's as I am sure you can not put the intel drivers in atfer the O/S is installed, so if you do not have any important data I would reformatt and try from scratch

Maybe i can ellaborate more on the problem. I have broken the raid and deleted it then i have reformeted both drives plugged them in and tried to boot to the rom. I get there about 1 out of 5 times. when I get there It only allows me to select what i want but wont bring up the menu to create an array it just sits there. When I reboot it will post and then restart, or it will take me back to the boot rom where it will only allow me to select the menu and then freeze again. I have tried updating the bios, I have tried everything that I can think of short of RMAing the board which is what I am about to do.
Thanks I guess that is what i am asking do you think that this can be fixed or should i RMA it. Nick Quote of the day "I hear if you spin the windows disc backwards you can hear the devil, but i guess thats not so bad considering if you play it forward it installs windows" |

can only think that it was a bad flash ??? I use 1003 with no drama. do you have you bios set to,
Onboard IDE Operate Mode= Enhanced Enhanced Mode Support On= S-ATA Configure S-ATA as RAID= Yes Serial ATA BOOTROM= Enabled IDE Detect Time Out= 35 you could also try resetting the bios with the jumper on your board or taking the battery out for a while and see if that helps but failing that if they will RMA it I would give that a shot. sorry I can not be of more help

Install the OS on one of the drives!!
Install the OS on the single drive and install your drivers for the Intel RAID. When your system boots to the single drive and everything is loaded. Shut down and hook up the other drive. Boot up now go to the intel storage utility in your control panel and setup the raid you want from there. It works perfect and it is how I got mine up and running perfect. I too am running 2 WD 120's. Good luck and hope this works. I know how very aggrivating setting up RAID can be; trust me.

I tried to install the raid driver during the os install, by f6 and nothing shows up. I then tried to install it via the add new hardware wizard and after selecting the floppy where the driver is it wont show me anything to install.
any more tips that you have would be helpfull. Also, earlier when I hit control I it shows null string void for the 3rd and forth options, 2 is supposed to be delete and it shows nothing. FRUSTRATED
