Re: computer not booting

Do you hear a series of beeps before it gets off? All computers go through a power on system test before you hear a single beep and boots up properly.

But if you are hearing a "morse code" like series of them in a string....something is not working properly and trying to let you (or a computer tech) know. Go to the "BIOS/CPU Beeps" Sticky at the top of this forum to learn how "to read" the sequence.

Last year, my previous HP 504n WinXP was doing the same thing. Turn off before booting. I kept hearing a series of short and long beeps. Went on my son's computer to go searching on the internet and found what they meant....the video was not passing the test.

I hadn't cleaned the inside case in several months (live in a desert) Opened the case to find the chipset was coated in dust along with the insides in general....but the chipset was the worst. The dust/dirt acted as a insulator. Cleaned the case out thoroughly. Closed it up and turned it on. Booted right up with no problems. So my solution was simple

(it finally crashed and died later but for totally different reasons)
