Computer Powering up with No Boot
Ok heres whats happenng. At fist i thought it would be real cool to get a new RAM card so i decided to open my PC to look what type of RAM card it is so i can get an other one exacty the same. so i leave the RAM card on my desk and left it. When i come back about 2 hours later, i put the RAM back in(same RAM stick as before) and close everything up. When i Open My PC i get a long BEEEP sound. So i figured it must be the RAM card since it was giving me motherboard failre beep code. Turns out it was the cause since i had put the stick the wrong way in. so i put it in the correct way. When i then opened my PC again thinking it was all good and top shape...I realize it never BOOTed...you can here the fans but no boot. Not knowing what to do, i tried everything i could find on forums and tried almost every way i could to fix it but no luck. I figured it is not my psu nor my RAM nor my video card since it did not fail on its own. I must of toched something...But i dont know, i might be wrong..HELP!

Re: Computer Powering up with No Boot
Okay, you put a stick of RAM in backwards? Can I ask how you did this? I'm not trying to sound mean or anything, but RAM sticks are notched, and short of destructive force you can't put them in backwards.
Now, however, let's focus. According to your post, you have 512MB of DDR2. DDR2 is a very snotty memory. It likes being installed in -identical- pair, and if you're doing the whole dual channel hulaboo, it's gotta be in certain slots. What I would try FIRST is to swap slots with your ram stick(s) and see if that doesn't fix it. However, the long BEEP is very troubling. That's the post beep, and depending on the Motherboard/BIOS those beeps have different meanings. The long one is pretty much the worst one, it means either it can't find the RAM or it can't find the CPU. I got this beep when I cooked my motherboard. It can also come from a shorted motherboard, a missing CPU, or a cooked CPU. Because it did not boot, this also tells me that something big is going on. Now if you're worried, I apologize. But look at your motherboard, look for black marks or sniff around for strange smells, and then look at your CPU and see if any scorch marks stand out. |

Re: Computer Powering up with No Boot
ok thx for responding. I tried a coumple of things and would not come to think that it would be the cpu because i nerver toched it. I only have one RAM stick. I tried changing its slot but all it gave me was a 1 short 1 long beep. But i dont know if it would be the RAM since when i put it to the slot i found it in, no beeps. as for the mobod. i checked for any black marks or any signs of failure and it looked ok.
when i say i put it in bacwards i mean: its supposed to be in this way: <-front--------------------back-> and i put it in te way: <-back--------------------front-> I dont know if its supposed to make a different but my judging was yes since when i put it in *backwards* it gave me the beep. |

Re: Computer Powering up with No Boot
Look at your motherboard again, and look for the BIOS chip. You'll know which one it is because it'll have a stick that says BIOS on it and what BIOS it uses. Tell me which BIOS that is.

Re: Computer Powering up with No Boot
I'm guessing it's an Intel Bios, judging that based on it being an Emachines, and I'm sorry to say this, but that POST beep sequence means something is wrong with the motherboard. There's a nice long article about it here: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000607.htm

Re: Computer Powering up with No Boot
When you first discovered it was installed backwards and you reversed it was the PC on or off your first post isn't real clear on that point?
Your PC will hold a maximum if 2 1 Gig sticks and it is best to install it in pairs, If while you have the side off see if there is a name and model number on the motherboard.

Re: Computer Powering up with No Boot
Yea it has two slots. I first tried my new RAM stick(witch is compatible for my PC since i talked with costumer service where i bought it) in the slot that did not work for my old one...all |
