[SOLVED] Small upgrade question

hey!

Erm basically got an old PC, all it is being used for is my girlfriend to run CS:source.

Its got 1.75gb ram, 256mb geforce 6200, and onboard sound, u know like basic!

Thing is i was trying CS:S yesterday..it runs ok, bit laggy tho..im guessing as the processor is 1.3ghz :P

Basically the board is an Asus A7S333 running duron 1300.

If i got a sempron 2800+ 333 FSB processor, will this be drop in and play?
Currently looking on the ebay for cheap working ones, just to up the performance a little

got a new psu in it (coolermaster 600) just to make sure power is sufficient (got many many pci slots used for sata/raid/network/network link to 360.)

Just basically the 1300 > 2800+ or even a 2400+

i know they are budget processors...but im actually on a budget

also quick one...got 1gb of pc2100, 512 on a pc2700 and a 256 on pc2100
best way to mix? i cant buy any more ram..outa cash u see!

Re: Small upgrade question

Hi,
No Semprons are supported I'm afraid.
The best processor you can install is the Athlon XP2600+(266FSB) (Model 8) (Thoroughbred). And you must have at least BIOS version 1004 to run that.
The XP2400 is also a good little worker.

Check the link below for the full CPU Support List.....
http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/c...Language=en-us
From the drop-down boxes choose, Motherboard, then Socket A(426), then A7S333.

For the best way to mix your RAM, download the Manual from the link below. It should include a chart showing you what combinations of memory can be installed.........

Re: Small upgrade question

It's up to you.
You gotta remember your BIOS has got to recognise the processor. Thats why you sometimes have to update the BIOS for your CPU to work; think you should stick to the ones listed on the CPU Support List.

On that list you will see the name of the processor plus it's core. There are Thortons but your board has to be PCB Ver 1.03
