Onboard sound issues

recently installed an MSI K8N Neo4-F motherboard with on-board sound. I had to go through Realtek to get the latest sound drivers available for Windows Vista (my OS), and the tuning picks up my music files and sound effects, but I don't get any sound from my output device. I've tried multiple devices and switching around slots. My microphone registers fine, however, and friends over a VOIP program were able to hear me speak with them, though I couldn't hear them.

I'm wondering if this sounds like defective drivers or maybe a defective motherboard.

Thanks for your time.

Re: Onboard sound issues

I tried the MSI site before but it only offers drivers for XP/2000. I gave them a shot anyway and I get the error "rtkvac.sys not found!" prior to installation.

Windows Vista Home Premium
MSI K8N Neo4-F
AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
3.00 GB RAM
Radeon X1600 Series 256-bit

Re: Onboard sound issues

Downloaded and installed them. Unfortunately, still no sound. The mixer does pick up the audio, it just doesn't come out the output device. I can't hear anything. I'm thinking the port might be bad on the motherboard if nothing's muted and the drivers aren't helping.

Re: Onboard sound issues

Are you plugging in the rear sound ports? double check your connected in the correct port, and there is a HD setup test configurator open and test speaker output. check volume controlls none are muted and the sliders are raised enough.

Re: Onboard sound issues

Make sure your not on digital output. Check under the windows settings (speaker icon next to the clock that your not muted. ALso while here enter advanced check the microphone. click advanced again and check the boost mic option. Then mute the mic. This shouldnt mute it if you are using a third party program like in Counter Strike or Vent or Teamspeak. But it will make for a much cleaner feed for others to hear you.

Lastly, make sure you have the onboard audio on in your bios.

Re: Onboard sound issues

Hey mate,
do you see little speaker next to the clock in system tray???
If you see little speaker, then go to Sound and Audio Devices in Control panel and check options...
also, realtek makes icon for options in Control Panel to so look there for Realtek manager...
