Where is MY overclock option?

I bought my PC from Best Buy, it's a Gateway.

How come I can't change the multipliers on my Mobo or overclock my CPU with any software or anything?

My board is an ECS MCP61PM-GM 2.1

Serial Number: OEM
Bus Clock: 1 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 11/26/2007

Can anyone help? Is there some CD or BIOS flash, or CPU unlock to just squeeze my phenom 9600 from 2.3 to 2.5?
Would buying a 9850 help?

OEM computers dont have any overclocking options ....... their bios doesnt allow overclocking besides, going from 2.3 to 2.5 would not even be noticible

You see!! I started a thread asking what OEM meant and it was responded with answers stating that is was stuff without the fluff.

I asked if an OEM MoBo and OEM q9450 would be 'locked' from overclocking. and the response was no.

So if I have an OEM machine and I go and build a PC with the OEM parts from tigerdirect, newegg, what have you, would it also be locked?

As long as you're using a pre-built motherboard from an OEM, it won't overclock.

There is a difference between an OEM computer and an OEM component. The first is a package deal, a "system" like Dell, HP, Gateway, whatever. They cannot be overclocked as they strip out many of the bios options, specifically anything that can be used to overclock. If you build a machine out of OEM components, on the other hand, it is full featured and allows you to do a whole lot more. All OEM means is manufacturer. If it is a name brand system, then the OEM is Gateway or Dell or whatever. If you build a custom machine out of components, be they retail or "OEM" then YOU are the manufacturer and as such you are your own technical support. That's why custom machines have options, if I fry my cpu because I overclocked the heck out of it, then it's my problem and mine alone. I can't go crying to the company because in essence, I am that company (manufacturer) and responsible for fixing my own stuff. Of course, individual components may be returned to their own manufacturer when defective. And there's your difference, it's about system vs. component, both can be correctly referred to as OEM and have a somewhat different meaning.
If you want to overclock, you have to either build it yourself or have someone build it for you from components. Not purchase a final product off an assembly line.

I apoligize for the confusion

OEM can mean two different things ........ I never relaized that before

OEM = original equipment from the manufacturer

OEM computer systems = Dell, gateway, compaq, HP. e-machines etc etc etc

OEM parts = parts without the fluff as you say and usually limited if any warranty

OEM parts ------ if they are not from the branded builders can overclock
