which cpu to buy? and will it work?
ok i have an old computer that i built many years ago. last night I apparently fried my cpu cuz the core is not a perfect rectangle anymore, a tiny piece of it is chipped off. It's a long story but if you want to know how it happened, read the other thread that i posted in this section
anyways, it was a 1.33ghz amd athlon thunderbird cpu, and i can get the exact same cpu on ebay for 20 bucks so i think im gonna do that, but i just don't know if that would be a good idea cuz i don't know if my motherboard is damaged or just my cpu. how can i find out if the motherboard is still ok? also, do you think i should get the 1.4ghz model (the fastest cpu that's compatible with my mobo), or would it be smarter to just get the exact same one? i know the speed difference probably isn't enough to be noticeable but the faster one is actually a few dollars cheaper so i'm tempted to get it, i'm just thinking that i might be able to avoid other issues by getting the same cpu that was in it before. what do you think, will it matter? |

Re: which cpu to buy? and will it work?
As long as your motherboard and Bios version support it the faster one is ok.
As for checking your MB is there any physical damage? If not another CPU is the only way I know for you to check it.
