Upgrade Pentium 4
Hello, I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade my CPU.
Currently have Pentium 4 3.4ghz processor. CPU CPU Name: Intel Pentium 4 550 CPU Code Name: Prescott Platform Name: Socket 775 LGA CPU Full Name: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.40GHz Instructions: MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, HT Original Clock: 3400 MHz Original System Clock: 200 MHz Original Multiplier: 17.0 CPU Clock : 3392 MHz System Clock: 199.5 MHz FSB: 798.0 MHz L1 Data Cache: 16 KBytes L2 Cache: 1024 KBytes Motherboard Manufacturer: Dell Inc. Model: 0U7084 Is there any faster processors that are compatible with my equipment? I really can't afford a new computer right now and would just like to upgrade this one. Thanks for any help ![]() |

I don't know how their upgrade section works, need a service tag to get much further than this page, though it'll probably only work for machines bought from dell canada.

From everything I've seen it doesn't look too promising. Only P4's, the xps wasn't pentium D compatible until gen 5. Not a very big leap in cpu speed from your 3.4. Wish there was some good news out there, but I sure couldn't find any.
