bios malfunction
hello, i am using an asus p5n32-sli deluxe. this setup was working perfectly once upon a time but now the bios barely loads. the way it acts i almost think its overheating. the bios will either go to a creen about selecting correct boot device or a screen that has a message along the lines of:
checksum compatible ver version 2.6. ___bios recovery checking floppy floppy not found! checking cdrom cdrom not found! and i have gotten to normal screens and it asks me to press F1 for settings or F2 to use defaults. i pressed f2 and it froze. one i held delete during turning it on and then it went to the bios settings but then it black screened and did what it does most of the time which is flash the 3 keyboard lights and remains unresponsive, such as no restart by button or ctrl+alt+del. ive not ever seen this before, it seems to go farther when i let it sit off for a bit and will not do anything if i have had it on, that seems like over heating to me. so, im open to any suggestions, new bios chip? new mobo? hope i explained good enough |

Re: bios malfunction
Hi,
Do you have, or can you borrow another power supply to try? You could also try clearing the CMOS. This is done by jumper or button (the preferred method) on the motherboard; or by removing the motherboard battery for a while. Your manual will tell you what jumper or button to use

Re: bios malfunction
just tried another psu, did not change anything. it doesnt stay in the bios before not putting out a display long enough to change anything. ive reset the bios ram with removing the battery and changing jumpers as the manual says to and nothing changed.
it may be just me, but with the way it flashes the keyboard lights and some sounds computers generaly make on startup, its appears as tho it may be continuously restarting. Last edited by chuck4100 : 07-15-2008 at 10:42 AM. |

Re: bios malfunction
When nothing works then it is perhaps time to return to the Basics.
Unplug everything connected to the motherboard except the PSU, Video card and Keyboard. Try booting the PC in this bare bones configuration and see if maybe a piece of hardware is causing this problem. You wont have an operating system to boot to but atleast you can see if the Bios gets to the point where it asks for one. If it does then either your PSU is weak and can no longer support the hardware or a hardware device has gone bad which could drag the whole system down. |
