Question(s) about ram test at start up.
Hey all,
With this new build, when I start the computer, it does a ram test where it has like a 7 digit number counting up tumbler style. It gives the option to skip it by hitting escape. Question is, can this be turned off and do I even want to turn it off? If it cant or I dont want to turn it off, is hitting the escape button to skip it a bad idea? On my last build it didnt check ram this way. It just listed the amount that was installed. This tumbler way takes a bit of time counting off 4 gigs of ram. Any input? Thanks

Re: Question(s) about ram test at start up.
that's typical of an Award BIOS. I'd have to go play with hybrid to remember how to disable it, i think you can but don't remember how.
Our checkout computers at the store i work at, every now and then they'll freeze up, and the 2 computers that have most recently gone down would go through the RAM count 3 times before dying completely. One had to have a completely new tower assembly (CRS justs did a switch out), the other machine we're limping along but i expect it to die soon.

Re: Question(s) about ram test at start up.
I upgraded my mothers computer with a new/used cpu and a stick of ram. It does this same thing. But I cant tell you if it did it before these upgrades. I upgraded my girlfriends also, cpu/ram and hers doesnt do it. On my old system, like i said it didnt do it. As I get to thinking about it, the cpu in my girlfriends rig and my old one were Northwoods. The cpu I have now is a prescott. I am not sure what kind I put into my moms lol. Ill have to check that out tomorrow. But kinda thinking Northwoods dont roll the mem check like prescotts do. Any one have any input?

Re: Question(s) about ram test at start up.
There is definetly a setting in BIOS to switch it off. It's the 'Quick Power On Self Test' option I think.

Re: Question(s) about ram test at start up.
You may not be able to turn it off (on my msi motherboard i am not able to) but you can press exit and as long as you did not change yoru ram and you are sure nothing has changed in yoru comptuer it should be fine.........but if windows fails to boot or you make a hardware change you should let that check run.

Re: Question(s) about ram test at start up.
the RAM test you all speak of is specific to the Award BIOS. most/all other BIOS just say the amount, but don't count it running.
