Frozen computer following power interrupt

My computer was accidentally unplugged while running and now the only thing it will do it go the the XP screen and then freeze. I have tried using the advanced start program but to no avail. Any ideas?

Re: Frozen computer following power interrupt

Hey mate and welcome to TSF,
unplug your PC...
Open the case and take out CMOS battery and leave it for 30 seconds...
Make sure your power cable is unplugged and hit power button couple of times...
Turn back battery and close the case...
Plug cable and turn on PC...
Report back please...

Re: Frozen computer following power interrupt

It is a Dell Dimension 4400. I tried the Safe mode but the screen filled up with notations and then froze.

I have tried Last......

Vladimir, I am not familiar with where the battery would be located in a PC.

As you can prbably tell, I am not very tech savvy. How do you get the cover off of the case?

Re: Frozen computer following power interrupt

Hey mate,
go into BIOS by pressing DEL, F1, F2 or F10 [I can not remember what key is for DELL sorry] and check if your HDD or optical devices are visible...
Under the BOOT tab [also in BIOS], make sure CD/DVD-ROM is set to be your first boot device and second to be Hard Disk Drive...
Also, check cables inside the case, did you unplug some cables or maybe accidentally touch them???
Make sure all cables are well plugged and start PC...
Report back please...

Re: Frozen computer following power interrupt

All of those keys take me to that same screen: System halted.

I don't think I touched anything but the battery on the inside.

Re: Frozen computer following power interrupt

Hey mate,
please provide us with your system specs...
About your PC that turns off: Can you borrow PSU from a friend to make sure if your PSU is dead...
You need to sort this thing first because if PC does not start we can not do anything else...
Your HDD is SATA or PATA???
If it is IDE, is it together with CD/DVD-ROM on one IDE cable or is it on separate cable???
Make sure your HDD jumpers are set to be cable select...
Also check what make/model is your HDD and download from manufacturers web site testing tools and test your HDD for possible bad sectors...
